help me out with some context about Chaffetz' comments...Originally posted by JohnnyLingo View PostNo, you didn't understand the context of her statement.
But to answer your original question, Chaffetz wins.
does this have anything to do with it?

"Well, let's see. There's ― of course in the great history of America there have been rulings that there's never going to be absolute consensus by every American, and there are those issues, again, like Roe v. Wade, where I believe are best held on a state level and addressed there. So, you know, going through the history of America, there would be others but ―" --Sarah Palin, unable to name a Supreme Court decision she disagreed with other than Roe vs. Wade, interview with Katie Couric, CBS News, Oct. 1, 2008"Department of Law? ROFL"I think on a national level your Department of Law there in the White House would look at some of the things that we've been charged with and automatically throw them out."

“I’m the mayor, I can do whatever I want until the courts tell me I can’t.’”not much needs to be said about that abortion of an answer“Oil and coal? Of course, it’s a fungible commodity and they don’t flag, you know, the molecules, where it’s going and where it’s not. But in the sense of the Congress today, they know that there are very, very hungry domestic markets that need that oil first. So, I believe that what Congress is going to do, also, is not to allow the export bans to such a degree that it’s Americans that get stuck to holding the bag without the energy source that is produced here, pumped here. It’s got to flow into our domestic markets first.”
“Perhaps so.” –Sarah Palin, when asked if we may need to go to war with Russia because of the Georgia crisisthis woman is hilariously vapid, and it truly scares me that people felt comfortable with her a 70-something year old man's heartbeat away from being the single most powerful human being on the planet.“I’ve been so focused on state government, I haven’t really focused much on the war in Iraq.”
none of this is to say, however, that i am defending jason chaffetz, because he is a genuine dumbass and embarrassment to our state.Te Occidere Possunt Sed Te Edere Non Possunt Nefas Est.

I'm not going to defend Palin, but Obama is not much better. Zero real-world experience, a long list of gaffes (verbal and otherwise)... those who kill Palin and worship at the Altar of Barack are terribly inconsistent.Originally posted by camleish View Postthis woman is hilariously vapid, and it truly scares me that people felt comfortable with her a 70-something year old man's heartbeat away from being the single most powerful human being on the planet.

Her comment is not dumb. Saying "there is no proof that man is causing global climate change" is not a stupid thing to say.Originally posted by Babs View PostPalin's comments aren't dumb. The smart politician uses as many words necessary to convey as little as possible.
If you want to quibble over what she meant, take the SloanHater route and fail miserably.
If you want to attack what she really said, go after Indy.
Let me know how that goes.

you'll not get me to defend barack obama in many instances, but the man can cite more cases that have come before the supreme court than roe v. wade. if by zero real world experience you mean limited foreign policy exposure, then yes, i agree wholeheartedly; but would you really prefer a woman whose fopo credentials are "durrrr i can see putin from my house." also, i'm interested in the "long list of gaffes," i cannot think of one from obama (i.e. prove it). biden is another story, obviously. comparing a harvard law school valedictorian and prolific professor at chicago law school to some hillbilly university of idaho veteran of the alaska pageant circuit who doesn't know where pakistan is is a bit of a stretch, and a lot like comparing an apple to, well, some other really stupid, but beautiful and bitchy fruit.Originally posted by JohnnyLingo View PostI'm not going to defend Palin, but Obama is not much better. I'm sure he can. Again, I'm not defending Palin... being able to cite more Supreme Court cases than she can is not exactly impressive.Originally posted by camleish View Postyou'll not get me to defend barack obama in many instances, but the man can cite more cases that have come before the supreme court than roe v. wade.
No, I would not. As I said above, Obama is better than Palin. Just not a whole lot better.if by zero real world experience you mean limited foreign policy exposure, then yes, i agree wholeheartedly; but would you really prefer a woman whose fopo credentials are "durrrr i can see putin from my house."
What news sources do you follow? Certain outlets had a field day whenever President Bush misspoke or tripped up, and now they ignore President Obama's gaffes. You can be forgiven for not being aware of the latter incidents. Let's go over a few of them.also, i'm interested in the "long list of gaffes," i cannot think of one from obama (i.e. prove it).
Barack Obama jokes about Nancy Reagan having séances in the White House. He later called her to apologize after the AP noted that although she had consulted astrologers, “she did not hold conversations with the dead”:On his maiden Marine One trip Obama breaches protocol and makes life uncomfortable for an enlisted marine by shaking the the serviceman’s hand as he’s saluting his commander-in-chief.Gordon Brown presents the new President with: a pen holder carved from the timbers of HMS Gannett, a sister ship of HMS Resolute; the commissioning certificate of HMS Resolute; and a seven-volume biography of Winston Churchill. In return, the Prime minister gets 25 DVDs, which don’t work in Britain.I'm not saying President Obama is a moron, but he's had his share of dumb moments over the last year or so.Barack Obama jokes about the disabled on the Jay Leno show. Afterwards, he calls the head of the Special Olympics to apologise:
To sum up, President Obama graduated from Harvard law, taught law, and was a community organizer. How that supremely qualifies him to be president of the United States, I have no idea. There is no real world experience in there. At least Palin, as governor of a state, had to deal with things like budgets and actual lawsuits and lead the national guard.Comparing a harvard law school valedictorian and prolific professor at chicago law school to some hillbilly university of idaho veteran of the alaska pageant circuit who doesn't know where pakistan is is a bit of a stretch, and a lot like comparing an apple to, well, some other really stupid, but beautiful and bitchy fruit.
Again, I don't want Palin to be president and I'll never vote for her, but if you think President Obama is way more qualified for the job than she is, you're up in the night.

To top it off Obama has had a microphone and the press in front of him 24/7 since elected and Palin hasn't. I suspect she would say the oddest of things were she president.Originally posted by JohnnyLingo View PostI'm sure he can. This thread wasn't meant to be about Obama. But I'll take the position he is much smarter than Palin anyday. Some self-disclosure I am one of those awful satanic socialists who voted for and likes ObamaOriginally posted by Commando View Postwhat's with all the rushing to Obama's defense?
