I don't know Bellavela well, but I sure am glad she is on our team.

I got out later than I wanted, so I only ran 3.00 miles tonight. I sure am feeling the missed 2 weeks of running though, my average heart rate was 178 with a high of 190bpm at the end."I don't mind giving the church 10% of my earnings, but 50% of my weekend mornings? 18.25 on the bike.
Felt terrible. Not much sleep lately, and went out for a "quick pace" group ride with the local bike shop last night.
Got dropped just under the 10 mile mark! So bummed. Windy day, and the group leader was trying to keep the pace between 23 and 25 miles per hour.
Not sure where everyone else is, but that is a fast pace for me, and I knew I couldn't keep that going for 40 miles. So, I dropped off and sulked back to the bike shop with my tail between my legs. :-(

Hmm... Good motivation for me to remain active I guess.

4.6 last night, I have the oncall phone and recieved a call in the middle of the run. I finished up too late to continue.
I may be small, but I'm slow.

Crap, crap, crap, crap! I think my running days are over.
I ran 2 miles a night several times last week, then took the weekend off while I went camping. This week I doubled my distance to 4 miles on Monday and Tues and was feeling just a twinge of pain in my lower calf toward the end of the run Tues.
Last night I got a very late start so I only intended on running 2 miles, and I think I've ruined my legs again. Bad pain in the lower leg, above the ankles, concentrated on the inside of the leg (I've posted about it before). I thought I was starting out slow enough to avoid this, but every time I start up running I seem to get stopped by something - heel pain, shin splits, etc."It's devastating, because we lost to a team that's not even in the Pac-12. If the group goes at 23-25 miles per hour at Tahoe they will lose me also. Don't worry about it.Originally posted by The Borg View Post18.25 on the bike.

Good to know JL.... first time I jumped in with that group. I asked how "quick" was "quick" supposed to be...but got no definite answer. So off we all went, and you could tell from the get go, that out of the 8 of us there, he blew apart the group into 2 groups almost immediately.
I hung with the front 3 but noticed the other 4 behind us had an ever widening gap. So, I'd wait, and we'd pull back up to the front 3.
Look back again after a while, and the other 3 would be back...so, we start that cycle all over again. At some earlier point, we lost a rider, and at about mile 10, I knew the group wouldn't keep together, and I most certainly couldn't keep that kind of a pace the entire ride...so, what's the point of riding in a 'group' that was going to get blown up anyway."Newton's First Law of Motion: ...things at rest tend to stay at rest. Don't give up yet. You doubled your distance! I swear I've posted this several times before, but doubling your distance (ESPECIALLY with no rest days!) begs for an injury.Originally posted by kccougar View PostCrap, crap, crap, crap! I think my running days are over.

I'll say this again...
Add no more than 10% to your total mileage each week.
Do not run every day.
You can't cheat these rules. Especially as a new runner. niku is the great exception--don't follow his example.
Take a few days off. Go on a short walk/run (alternating minutes) and then see how you feel.At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I didn't cheat on those rules either, except once (after I learned them, that is). And that once was the time I got injured.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostDon't give up yet. Give yourself a week or two off, and then take a trial short run to see how you feel, just like ER says.Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.
