We like the Costco Kirkland protein bars. Taste good and decent nutrition profile.

    • That's awesome GM.

The combination or working from home for 10 months plus the holidays (e.g. eggnog) have left me about 15 pounds over where I like to be, so I started my normal Intermittent Fasting-ish routine that I do in times like this. I am having cheese withdrawal from the 5-10 daily cheese snack runs to the kitchen I had been making.

I like both the Nature Valley and the Kirkland protein bars. Too much. When I have them available I eat way too many of them. They don't help with my weight loss goals at all.

Yes, they're both tasty. I found when I was counting calories I ate a lot less of them.

It's easier for me to eat fewer of them if I leave them on the shelf at Costco.

Protein is great for curbing your appetite over a long stretch.

I'm just starting another round of weight loss. Cutting calories is a huge part of my plan and it helped me lose 25 lbs last year. My weekday routine is essentially skipping breakfast and eating a lunch that consists of a cup of cottage cheese and vegetables. The protein to calorie ratio in cottage cheese is great. If I eat at 11:00 am that will satiate me until about 4:00.

                • I bought a scale. must have tossed the last one years ago.

So now I am tracking my weight for the first time ever. I lost 3 lbs in the first 3 days of watching. then it went back up a lb. will be interesting to see over time.

This may prompt me to actually workout again. I have been really lazy since breaking my foot and have little to no motivation to do anything. Even though my foot still hurts (4.5 months post surgery) I have said screw it and have started running again.

Started doing 1/2 mile 3 times a week and am up to 2 miles/3 times. Did 2.5 miles yesterday in 19:45 and it hurts just as much as if I don't do anything, so I figure why not.

That must be why I have been eating so much extra cheese lately. I'm picking up your slack.

                    • I like the nature harvest bars - but my wife and kids are not fans of dark chocolate. So - if I want them all left for me, it's a great buy! If I want something my wife and the one daughter still at home will eat too - probably something different is best. I'll have to try the Kirkland ones.

                      • I've said it before (I think) and I'll say it again. One Protein bars are the best out there. Currently loving the Cinnamon Roll version. I buy them from Amazon, makes them about $2 a bar. $3 in stores.

                        • Well, I am diabetic now. I don't know if it is some of my unhealthy post divorce habits (drinking way too much alcohol and soda), or if I've been this way for longer than that. I tend to avoid doctors completely, so who knows how long I've been diabetic.

I guess I'm going to have do the whole diet and nutrition thing. I'm now a week without soda. I've only had a few shots of whiskey over the past week. Now time to figure out how to actually incorporate more fruits and vegetables into my diet. I've also got to drop 20-30 pounds.

I'm hoping that over the next 3-months that I can get control of things enough that I can reverse the course that I'm on. The last thing that I want to deal with is taking insulin and checking my blood sugar all the time.

I'm committed to fixing this issue. I'm pissed at myself for letting it get here. I just bought a rowing machine for home use so that I can get daily cardio in. I realize that I can't necessarily change the diagnosis now that I'm at this point, but I can at the very least minimize the interventions that will be necessary. I'm just glad it is Type 2.

Right, except that the sweetness of those bars calls - nay, beckons - me to consume more in spite of the appetite-curbing benefits I should be enjoying.
