You should play! It’s loads of fun and Utah is a Mecca of sorts. Junkie has a nice big group he plays with and has really become a really good player. He’s a perfect example of someone with zero racket experience that has been able to pick it up and have a ton of fun traveling to tournaments and playing 2-3 times a week. It’s incredibly addicting especially if you find yourself a solid group to play with.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI played my first pickleball game (match?) 25 years ago. IIRC Junkie is pretty unorthodox, at least his serve is, and it can really put people off balance (at least, when I played him, I felt like he would catch me leaning, and I couldn’t always read his paddle correctly). In that way, his lack of racquet sports may be a strength since he’s coordinated and athletic.
The father of one of my best friends is helping to usher along a new 34-court complex in Provo. They’re trying to get the PPA (arguably the best of the PB circuits from a talent perspective) to make it their HQ there.
My buddy’s dad was the tennis coach at BYU for several years. Most of their family play PB instead of tennis these days, and one of them is sponsored by Onix.
the sport is still not huge in Houston. We only have a handful of legit 5.0 players, and when they play big tourneys, they’re not usually high performers.
I wonder how good they’d be if they lived in FL, Utah, or the East Valley.

They are playing one of the biggest PB tournaments of the year as we speak in California and a dude who played tennis at UCLA just made a deep run in one of his first mixed doubles tournaments. Dudes been playing for like 3 months between training for triathlons and coaching tennis yet beat some of the best teams in the sport right now.
You get 10-15 of those dudes dedicating their energy and time to PB and the game will evolve. It’s the coolest thing about the sport it really is an unsolved game, there really isnt a meta.

How much does pickleball dominate my thoughts? Last week in EQ, we discussed the talk from GC that borrowed from the Atomic Change book. It was a great discussion on self-improvement. And all I could think about was "What small changes can I start to make in pickleball?" and the rest of the lesson and week, that's dominated my thoughts.

Damn looks like Pickle Ball is really having its day. I'm waiting for crab soccer to make a run before I dive into a new sport..."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"

After spending a couple of weeks in Utah this summer, my daughter made me buy some pickleball equipment, even though I knew of no where to play here. Happily, they recently repainted one of our tennis courts in our neighborhood and included pickleball lines, so if my daughter is up to the task, I will soon be playing at CJ/GM/Fus levels.

I often play basketball in the cultural hall of our meetinghouse early in the morning MWF. There has been a growing contingent of pickleball players who set up and play as we are leaving."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

Disagree. I think it's here to stay.Originally posted by jay santos View PostMapleton City made a huge investment and put in a bunch of pickle ball courts in one of their parks. Seemed really weird. Then the Springville rec center did the same thing. In ten years or less, these will be monuments to really bad administrative decisions.Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

I have gone entire sacrament meetings imagining what irons I would use to hit different items in the chapel--dangling lights, hymn number display, flower display on the rostrum, etc.--and then visualizing the swings and those shots. So I get it.Originally posted by Green Monstah View PostHow much does pickleball dominate my thoughts? Last week in EQ, we discussed the talk from GC that borrowed from the Atomic Change book. Does doing mental calculations of employing explosives count? Or do you think that's something I should keep to myself?Originally posted by Donuthole View Post
