  • I've got a chest cold - so I've just been going to the gym the last couple of days

Every time I start to get up a head of steam - I can't breath and have to slow down

I may be small, but I'm slow.

We are basically 16 miles short as of right now, but I'm going to go ahead and count all the miles everyone is walking to the stadium as well as DH's ceremonial lap in his pool (nice humblebrag!) and declare us just in time for kickoff. Thanks to all who participate this year. We still have 3 more days to log miles so don't slow down and put in a couple runs/rides/swims before the end of the year. I'll try and do a better write up on New Years Day because if it doesn't happen then it won't happen.

I got first dibs on PAC's pool!

I have roughly 18 miles from this week to log in.

          • If I can hold off Elidente I might come in 6th place. I think Joe Public is too far out for me to catch even if I went all out the next 3 days. I'd be very happy to take 6th especially given the level of running/biking athletes we have on this board.

            • I'm not recovering from my marathon as anticipated so my mileage will be down for a bit. I don't think you need to worry about me catching you

              • Last call to update mileage on the tracking spreadsheet for this challenge. Put in your miles and I'll award some winners and losers either tonight or tomorrow morning depending on how my schedule shakes out.

I finished my update this morning and was looking at where I stand and saw that I'm last in the tier I'm in and was in no danger of falling to the next tier. Those in the tier ahead were also in no danger of seeing my behind either.
I have nothing else to say at this time.

                    • Well, I staggered in - I haven't felt so misserable in a long while - the chest cold morphed into the flu and I spend most to the week between Christmas and New Years on the couch

I may be small, but I'm slow.

                      • First off, thanks to all who participated. This year was a roaring success. We finished up with over 3,600 miles, which blows away the 2,941 we had last year. While we did have one extra week this year, we had the same number of participants (28). Very cool to see the big increase year over year. Maybe next year we'll make it across Russia.

So without further ado, here are the awards I've giving out based solely on my own judgement and without any consultation or consideration of the opinions of anyone else.....

                        Longest Distance:
1st place - CJF with an astonishing 400+ miles taking over this place from PhippyD who was the defending champion.
2nd place - Ohio Blue with an almost chiasmic 369.3
3rd place - JiC with the best all around effort at 321

                        Most Consistent:
There was some incredible consistency this year but vote for most consistent goes to Ohio Blue. If his name were Jerome I'd call him Jerome the metronome given how crazy predictable his mileage seems to be each week and it's even more impressive given the distances he's running. Happyone takes honorable mention and could have been the winner if not for him getting sick near the end.

                        Most Improved:
I'm inclined to give this one to scottie. He had some minimal mileage at first and then really put in some good weeks later in the challenge. Nice going and keep it up for next year.

Couple other things I noted this year (feel free to chime in and give your own):
                        - We've got some freaks that put in some freakish miles. We aren't pro athletes but it's pretty cool to see what everyone does on a semi-regular basis. JiC really surprised me as he not only dominated the bike and swim but was very respectable coming in 13th in running. Ohio Blue and Happyone are crazy, especially Happyone given his age
                        - I didn't like starting the challenge a week or two earlier. I'd prefer it start the week of Thanksgiving and might move it back up then. People tend to fizzle out a bit at the end but I'm open to other thoughts here.
                        - I liked including biking and swimming and think they should both stay. Not many participated in the swimming but it at least gave Donuthole a 4th place finish in a category.
                        - It's nice to see some of the more "seasoned" posters placing in respectable fashion, specifically creekster in 11th and PAC in 12th. We obviously don't need a "greybacks" category given how well everyone competes together regardless of age.
                        - Joe Public and Elidente are studs and could probably kill me with their bare hands....that is all.
                        - Personally, I'm elated with a 6th place finish, especially since I finished ahead of PhippyD......although it took him tearing a muscle for me to beat him. I feel in a way that I'm round

                        Here's the final map:

                        • How much did you beat me by? I have at least 30 miles that are absent because I am lazy.

                            • I am gravely disappointed I didn't make the top ten. But I managed to injure my hip and have been off any exercise involving legs for the last week or more. Very depressing. I hope it resolves soon.

Congrats to all participants. It was fun until somebody gets hurt, wait, wrong speech.
                              PLesa excuse the tpyos.

                              • Thanks for doing this again Moliere! It's been impressive to see the collective efforts. It's unfortunate that a few people ended up getting hurt, which would have changed things around a lot.
