Pdip, how do you get that distance in before work? I have to get up at 5 a.m. as it is and trying to up my mileage over 40mpw I think it's gonna have to be 4:30. But that's just to get 7 or 8 in....twenty-freaking-one on a weekday? How do you function the rest of the workday?

Not well is the answer. I was late by a half hour (not really - nobody cares when I get in) because I had a particularly bad reaction to some nachos at mile 18. I was out the door by 4:15 - would have been earlier but my Garmin was acting weird and I had to troubleshoot.

I feel like garbage right now.

Seriously, running is an addiction. I felt like garbage yesterday, which is probably due to my 40 miler on the bike coupled with drinking little water the rest of Sat/Sun and skipping a couple meals. The one meal I really ate was a mid-lunch/dinner at Kyle Field where I had a "wrecker" dog (complete with brisket, chili and nacho cheese) as well as nachos and a diet pepsi. Then I spend a lot of time in meetings on Sunday and never get the chance to eat. I came home with a splitting headache and after forcing some rice dinner down my throat I went to bed at 7pm. I woke up before my alarm and sensing that my headache is gone I went out for a 10K.

I've got a special event planned on Saturday....

Shall we run/ride the same way this year, the opposite direction, a different continent, or blow off the venue altogether and simply rack up the miles?

I'm going to take a few days off for travel at the end of this month, but my target is 140 net miles during the seven-week challenge. You young'ns had better top that. If you do, we can finish a transcontinental run. That said, it'd be nice to conscript a couple more.
I've thought about this. Doing another continent would be fun but it would lack the familiarity. I think we need something just as long as last year but it was fun to have so many places that we'd all been at one point. I was thinking we could start at LA Ute's house (retroactively egg his house before heading out) and run along a southern route to either Miami or back up to NYC. I'm open for anything though.

2,000 miles in a year is incredible, if only because you stayed healthy enough to reach it. That's over 5 miles per day (or over a 10K per day if you aren't running Sundays). My feet couldn't take that pounding. I'd like to see if this pushes P-Diddy a bit during the challenge....and for the right price I'll drive over to his house and hit his knee with a police baton.

Given my schedule, it will. Some weeks I'm scheduled to go nearly 90 miles.

My experience this morning illustrates why these challenges are good for me. I started out feeling tired, my legs hurt, and after some early work, I felt like blowing off the morning's run. But then I imagined everybody else following my effort with great interest (ridiculous, but hey, I don't pay attention to you guys either), and I wanted to both impress and not let anyone down. So off I went, and felt better as the run progressed. My mileage (6.4 at just under 10 min/mile) won't dazzle anyone, but it's good for me and I intend to keep it up. The battle is joined.

As for a group goal, we could do another transcontinental run/ride/swim, but this time we're heading west. Riding P'dip's back, we left Times Square shortly after 6 am local time and are already well into New Jersey. Perhaps it's overly ambitious, but if we can put together 80 miles everyday, we'll arrive at ATT Park shortly before BYU kicks off to USC on December 27. To see where we'll run, use Google Maps for directions from Times Square to ATT Park, and use "walking" as the form of transportation. Mrs. PAC will provide SAG support along the way.

Um yeah....so I don't really know what I was thinking, but I definitely will NOT be hitting 2,000. I hadn't added up the monthly totals and my mental math is still at a 3rd grade level. I'm on track to go past 1,000. ONE. not TWO. I average 35-40/wk when healthy but have also had weeks here and there off. So you can take your praise back.

(edit: went and actually calculated it all up....turns out I hit 1,000 a bit over a month ago and am at 1250 right now. planning on establishing my base during winter, so a couple months of 150+ should get me comfortably past 1500. last year it looks like I totaled 1038)

You guys are kidding yourself if you think I wasn't specifically thinking about this challenge and y'all when I was suffering this morning.

I've got a suspicion you saved your 21 miler for this morning ....but now I'm wondering what you have planned for tomorrow

Seriously though, I love this challenge and am glad many on here participate.

What, me? Surely you jest. I mean, it's not like I took it super easy last week to gear up for the challenge. Or skipped my Sunday run and did it this morning. Surely not....

Tomorrow will be relatively pedestrian. In fact, the rest of the week is pretty tame. The cumulative milage might be decent though.

Okay, that's a bit more reasonable but still quite a bit. I just checked and I've got 450 miles this year. That includes the 3 solid months I took off after my achilles came up hurting so much back in January (making me miss my marathon) and also the slow ramp up to normal mileage after taking time off.

So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.
