Nice work. I've eliminated sweets from my diet. I had a hard time not overindulging so for the past year I haven't had any cake, candy, cookies or ice cream. The first week or so was hard, but after that it hasn't been a big deal.

As far as the exercise, I'm on my second week of P90X3. It's a lot of fun. For the most part it's a great workout and the thirty minutes seems to go by pretty quick.

    • Usuc, I don't want to click on the previous page. Are you cutting out all sugars or just refined? When I was trying to drop the sweets I swapped them for fruit every night. Honeycrisp apples do the trick (until the season ends anyway), but I also eat a lot of grapefruits, pears, etc. Seems to give me the fix without knocking down a candy bar or ice cream.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Wow, impressive. Overindulgence is my problem as well. Last week I ate 7 Twinkies in one sitting. One sitting!

Yeah, only refined sugar. That and portion size are what I'm working on now. I was going to give myself one day a week to indulge in sweets, but I'm not sure if that will throw me off.

        • Holy crap. 7 twinkles in one sitting? That is more twinkles than I have eaten in the past 25 years.

I always give myself Friday and Saturday since the Mrs. and I are going out. I just figure that if I restricted myself completely I'd just hit that point where I started scarfing them down and overindulge. I haven't been as strict about it lately since i've been in the 161-163 range the last few months, but it worked when I was trying to lose.

Yeah, sort of a rock bottom situation for me.

              • About to finish my third week on Whole 30. It's pretty much very strict paleo: No flour, sugar, grains, or legumes. I basically eat a lot of fruits, vegetables, meat, and eggs. My wife is taking it pretty seriously and has whipped up some pretty tasty Whole 30-compliant dinners. I have been pretty good. The only time I cheated was a Diet Coke at the movies the other night and then another one the next day. I'm down almost 10 pounds so far and am looking for a total loss of around 25. I have been trying to get back into crossfit at the same time, but have only been 1-2 times per week. I'm upping that this week so I hope the weight loss accelerates. I play soccer nearly every Saturday morning so that has helped too.

                • The weight I lost last summer and fall started to creep back on during the holidays, so I decided to get back to what worked so well for me--a lot of cardio (running, elliptical, stationary bike), and weight training. I don't have any specific plan or program in the gym. I mix in core exercises between sets, then usually end with 10/10/10 (in minutes) of rowing maching, treadmill, stationary bike, or stair climber.

I'm currently in temporary housing, so I don't have a scale, but in two weeks, I've noticed a difference in how my clothes are fitting, etc.

I hope to lose 50 pounds in 2013. Knock on wood.

There was a time not long ago when you and I weighed about the same, IIRC. Not even in the same ballpark these days.

I forgot...no dairy either. That's almost as hard as no sugar for me.

Went to Katz's on the way home and picked up two pounds of sliced pastrami. Pastrami and eggs for dinner. Diet!

                      • This girl at my office wants me to go lift with her. I suppose that's some type of commentary on my general weakness? At any rate, my best friend in law school was a chick and I used to run with her, but lifting with a chick seems really...weird.

                              • I got parolled from Whole 30 today. I had bacon/egg/cheese on an english muffin with hot chocolate to celebrate. Bread never tasted so good. I lost 13 pounds in a month which is the jump-start I needed to continue on to my final goals. I want to lose about 10-15 more pounds. I already feel about 50 pounds lighter and working out/playing sports is a lot easier so that will help me accelerate my progress I hope.

My plan diet-wise long term is to cut out sugar and most flour during the week. No snacking between meals and a free day on Saturday to keep my sanity. That + crossfit two days a week and soccer on Saturday.
