  • Bod pod is probably the most accurate method you have access to at a reasonable cost (I could get it for $10 at the university, last time I did it). I think there are some radiographic scanning methods that will do a little better, but I can't imagine they're cheap or easily accessible.

At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

thanks. bod pod claims +/- 2%, which can actually be a wide margin I suppose if you are at MarkGrace/professional athlete levels of body fat. For me, I will take a 2% MOE for $20.

      • Body fat percentage discussions always bother me as mine is in the 20-21 range, far above what others here have self-reported (btw, I use an Omron Body Fat Analyzer which, while probably far from perfect, provides pretty consistent readings and matched up well with a more thorough and detailed analysis I received a few years ago). But I take comfort from the apparent fact (per Jackson & Pollack--and how's that for a name combo?) that as we age our body fat percentage rises naturally, and within the proper range such increases are good. Here's a chart of their findings, with the four color bands representing (from left to right) Lean, Ideal, Average and Not Good, or something like that.

        For men:

        For women:

Anyway, I'm entitled to around 6-7% than most here. I shall enjoy my trough of ice cream tonight guilt-free.

          • 164 this week so I think 164-165 is about as low as it's going to get without doing something drastic (like living in Mexico and walking under the scorching sun all day ) or getting really strict with the diet. Though I don't really think I should be going below this weight range anyway.

Going to try this thing Santos does of passing off on bench. I have no idea what the purpose is, but sounds fun. I did 155 lbs 3x5 pretty easily on Sunday so I guess I'll bump up. Should be to my body weight soon.

                • Traveling last week and got out of my routine. I was doing so good for like two months but even taking a week off, it's so hard to get back on track. I'm afraid I might be losing a little muscle. My bench was steady three weeks in a row 190 x 5,5,4 and then last Saturday 190 X 5,4,3. And now I'm feeling like I tweaked my shoulder. That's a problem with going low reps is that injuries are more frequent.

                  • gracey, when you are done putting up 155, mix in some crossfit and flip this tire end over end. After about 20 yards you will definitely feel the burn!

                      • CJ can mock, DDD cannot, since the only straight guy (allegedly) in the gym on the elliptical doesn't get to mock anyone! (the tire picture did make me laugh though).
