I'm spent after this week. Rest day coming up, and then the same next week (a couple of miles shorter, actually - half marathon race on the weekend).

Glad to hear it, but don't overdo it. We need you and a couple of others to start up, though, so we can reach NYC in a timely fashion. I've been in touch with another absentee Cuffer whose participation may ensure we don't fall short.

Thanks to nikuman's dazzling (or exhausting, depending on one's view) 17-mile run, we've passed the 400-mile mark and are entering Winnemucca, NV, home of the world's largest potato dehydration plant. Given the many local attractions, it's tempting to stick around but we must press on as we need to be in Salt Lake City by Friday night.

Assuming all of our quads hold up (I'm in uncharted territory with this training schedule; the mileage is daunting and I have a quick trigger should an abnormal pain show), I'd like to be in Park City no later than a week from now. My family might even show up at Silver Junction to cheer us on.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostThanks to nikuman's dazzling (or exhausting, depending on one's view) 17-mile run, we've passed the 400-mile mark and are entering Winnemucca, NV, home of the world's largest potato dehydration plant. Being on call this weekend has put a damper on my running. Hopefully things will be better this week.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostThanks to nikuman's dazzling (or exhausting, depending on one's view) 17-mile run, we've passed the 400-mile mark and are entering Winnemucca, NV, home of the world's largest potato dehydration plant. My BIL/SIL used to live outside Winnemucca, on a cattle ranch on the Humboldt river. For as desolate as I-80 looks, getting off the freeway an hour or so really opens up into some beautiful country."You interns are like swallows. You shit all over my patients for six weeks and then fly off."
"Don't be sorry, it's not your fault. It's my fault for overestimating your competence."

There is also a hotel in Winnemucca that has a Basque restaurant that is very well known among the Basque community throughout the western US. I believe it is called Ormachea's. During Super Bowl weekend, they sell a room and meal package that goes for upwards of $600 per night. I have a patient that travels the 7-8 hours there every January for the festivities.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostThanks to nikuman's dazzling (or exhausting, depending on one's view) 17-mile run, we've passed the 400-mile mark and are entering Winnemucca, NV, home of the world's largest potato dehydration plant. Thanks to the late addition of Topper, we're picking up the pace and will be cruising through Elko, NV today. At the beginning of Groundhog Day, Phil the Weatherman cited Elko as one the places to which he'd like to retire. It's a lovely town, and I'm sure the presence of multiple legal brothels had nothing to do with his preference.
We need to step it up a bit more to make sure we hit SLC this weekend. What happened to LAU and all that powerwalking we've heard so much about?

We're on track to run past the Stateline Casino in Wendover this evening or first thing in the morning. I intend to stop in at the Roger French Memorial Room and make an offering, entreating the football gods (or Trixie) for a better offensive line in 2013.
It's been raining heavily here in NorCal with much more expected over the weekend. Still, Topper tells me he runs and bikes through rain and snow so I'll soldier on as well.

a couple of people at work want to get a head start on their new yrs resolutions. Starting Monday we will be walking a couple of miles at lunch. This will be in addition to my regular routine
I may be small, but I'm slow.
A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

Game on! The mileage you put up is amazing. I don't care what speed you do it at.Originally posted by happyone View Posta couple of people at work want to get a head start on their new yrs resolutions.
