Shot a 46 on the point 9 at sunbrook this morning. I was pissed when the round ended as I was 4 over after 7.

Golf Report
41+43=84
Zero birdies - 12 pars - 4 Bogey's - 2 Quad Bogey's
Played golf with a ward member Wednesday. He's lived in the ward for 3 years, and was recently called as the 1st Counselor. We've talked a lot of golf, but he finally cornered me into playing. We went out to my club, and I was hoping that he had a decent game as he is a very nice guy and about the same age, and I could see playing with him often if not for my penchant for high stakes mens club action. He had a nice tight swing with little moving parts, and smacked it down the middle. He's got some custom made irons that have an "extra heavy" (D3) swing weight. I tried hitting them on the warm up range, but they felt like a brick on the end of a stick. Any way, he shot a 86 with several shots left out there due to some short game issues that plaqued him on the day.
Going into the 8th I was 1 over, and thinking to myself if I can keep my head on straight, I'm going to go low today, as all the hard holes are behind me, and I've been known to have a couple of birdies on the back. Bogey on 8, and Quad Bogey on 9. So, I'm 41 after 9 still, and it's not the end of the world, so I can go low on the back and shoot in the 70's... Well, we started talking business on the back, and he kept asking me questions about a new venture I'm putting together, and because I'm excited about it, I get to chatting, and the next thing I know I'm out-of-bounds on the easiest hole on the course. (I hit a driver off the deck with the intention of fading it 220 yards to the green. It popped up and went dead straight out of bounds, and it was still climbing as it left the course.) Ended up with a 43 on the back, and if you've read my 100+ game reviews, you know I'm always lower on the back.
Anyway... had a good time, made a new friend, and he's a big fan of my 7 wood with driver shaft. He hit it a couple of times and said it's the easiest club he's ever hit to 200.Last edited by clackamascoug; 04-05-2013, 11:21 AM.

Did you drive into the water on 8? Unless you've played there recently, it's impossible to know how reachable that water is off the tee. With your distance and your power draw, I could see you reaching that easily. EDIT: Oh, and OB to the right. Right is my miss, so I'm acutely aware of the OB.Originally posted by Coach McGuirk View PostShot a 46 on the point 9 at sunbrook this morning. Also, that Par 3 9th can be tricky. It's uphill enough that you need more than an extra club (but not quite two clubs) to reach the green. If you leave it short, you've got a blind uphill chip to a tough green. If you go long, you've got a nasty downhill chip.Last edited by Donuthole; 04-05-2013, 11:23 AM.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss
There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

You nailed it. I should have laid up on 8. It was playing short according to my watch but that water looks far away and I should have known better. Did myself no favors hitting my drop over the green.
I clubbed up on 9, hit it fat . Blind chipped to the front of the green, and four putted across the three tiered green with a back hole location.

I played in a two-man best ball tourney down at Palisades over the weekend. 140 players (70 teams) that were split in two flights. My handicap right now is a 12, my playing partner an 18.
We were paired with two sand bagging 19s. One of of them was 1 over through 9 holes.
We started out on 18 and we both bogeyed. Hole 1 uphill par 5 we both doubled. Horrible start in a best ball tourney.
Hole 2 is a 180 yard par 3 over the water. I blade my tee shot, it hits a tree behind the ground and bounces back pin high on the green about 15 feet away. I three putt bogey. My partner also bogeys.
In the meantime the team we are paired with has gone par, birdie, par. With their inflated handicaps they get two strokes on the hole they birdied and a stroke on every other hole. We are down 5 strokes gross and 6 strokes net through 3 holes.
Hole 3 I get hot and end up having 3 birdies and 9 pars over the remaining 15 holes. The other three holes I had an 8 (OB twice) and two doubles. My playing partner on those 3 holes went birdie-par-par.
We end up shooting a net 58 and winning our flight. $250 to the pro shop. The team we played with blew up a bit on the back and shot a net 63. Down 5 through 3, we beat them by 5.
We really ham and egged it, when one of us was struggling the other one stepped up. We actually both shot pretty close to our handicaps, we were lucky enough to never really blow up on the same hole.*Banned*

Halfway through you had me scared, but a net 58 is more than great. Is it true pro shop money, or can it be used for food? I won enough early in the year last year that I had free bar and grill for the whole summer. Hmmmm..... perfect golden tator tots at the turn...Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostI played in a two-man best ball tourney down at Palisades over the weekend. 140 players (70 teams) that were split in two flights. I've already bragged privately to a few of you, but I broke through the 90 wall on Saturday at Awbrey Glen in Bend. 41-43, one double, one triple. The best part was that I didn't have one real duff, everything was in tempo and felt relatively well struck.
Now I've got to do it at my home course.Get confident, stupid

That is more than breaking through. That is shattering the 90 barrier.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostI've already bragged privately to a few of you, but I broke through the 90 wall on Saturday at Awbrey Glen in Bend. 41-43, one double, one triple. Shot a 94 at Black Mountain in Henderson. Guy from work bet me a round of golf he could beat me. (we have played a couple of rounds have about the same handicap) I shot a 94 and it was because I only had 33 putts on 18 holes. 6 pars! Never done that before. Was nailing all putts 12ft and in. Now if I could hit my driver efficiently I could break into the 80's. I am determined for that to happen this year!
P.S Guy from work owes me a round we are going early Saturday Morning.( FYI I most likely wrote that incoherently and will be properly corrected forthwith. Thanks)

Congrats. Number 2 son is flying to Vegas with me Sunday night. We are picking up a car and on the way back going to stop and play Coyote Springs. I have heard so much about it and never played it. I thought I had played most of the courses in Henderson, but haven't heard of Black Mountain. Is it fairly new?Originally posted by Y84it View PostShot a 94 at Black Mountain in Henderson. Here are some pictures that I will have on the night stand when I am in the rest home. First one is me, my dad, my granddad and my great granddad. Second is my grandson, 1st son, me and my Dad.Originally posted by clackamascoug View PostEarlier you asked why you golf. When 5/5 out of us here agree that the best thing in the world is golfing with your sons, you know it's a slam dunk. Keep up the good work.
