I am suspicious that vanity sizing has made it over to the menwear department in recent years, though.
I just bought a pair of size 0 shorts. SIZE 0! I haven't lost any weight. I normally buy size 4 (in vanity sizes) and am probably a true 6. What do the truly skinny people, the ones who are real size 0s do? Shop in children's?
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

Women's sizing is so stupid. So is men's to an extent. What is a size 2 now used to be a size 6. At least when I go to buy a 32 x32 pair of pants I know what that supposed to mean. Unfortunately you can't just buy a pair of 32 inch waist pants now and expect them to be 32 inches. They are more like a 34 now. So I am wondering if they aren't starting to do the same thing they have done with the women's sizing and make us think we are skinnier, when we are not.
