  • Good job Surfah!

My mother just challenged the family (mostly myself and my brothers) to a Biggest Loser challenge to be completed in 10 weeks when we all head out for a family vacation. If you meet your goal you get a cash prize. That's enough for me.

We recently bought an elliptical as well and so far it has been great!

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

9.5 miles? how long are you on the machine? hour and a half?
Just about. I averaged just over 6 miles/hr. I did it during the Laker game. Started during the 4th quarter of the Boston game. Only expected to do 30 minutes. Then the Laker game started and I went until half time so I wouldn't miss anything while I showered. Because some people sweat. And then I sweat. There is a difference.

            • Update: Another week and another 4 lbs lost. Down to 259, meaning I am just 14 lbs away from my first goal weight. Still exercising daily and counting my calories. I do need to eat more though. Gidget has been on my case lately because some days I barely get 1500 calories. I have been trying to load some more into breakfast and lunch and not be so top heavy at dinner and have a more balanced intake throughout the day. I also started taking a mutli-vitamin this week as looking at my nutritional levels I am deficient in certain areas particularly vitamins D, E and Calcium. I don't drink milk so I need to do better with my diet in that aspect. I try to keep a 50-30-20 ratio but it's difficult for me.

On a side note. Gidget has been tracking my progress with a photo every couple of weeks. I've lost 29 lbs so far and it's definitely noticeable in my clothing, however, when viewing the pictures last night I couldn't help but feel discouraged as it still doesn't look like I have lost much. It's a work in progress.

29 lbs is great. That's a 2-3 year old child you've lost! Keep it up and the visual rewards will come.

                • UPDATE: I hit a plateau where I hung aroung 257-258 for about a week. It seems as though I have finally broken through though and have dropped down to 253.6.

I have increased my cardio a bit by playing tennis with my dad who has me running all over the court. Not because he sucks and sprays shots, but because he thinks it is funny. I am grateful though because singles tennis is quite a workout. I also do the stationary bike or elliptical most days along with some circuit training with light weights (10 lbs) for 25-30 minutes.

I was starting to have some diet fatigue but now I feel a bit energized with the recent weight loss and am more committed. At the same time I am not beating myself up like I would have a month ago had I eaten something I wanted to. Cowboy would have been proud as I ate 12 oz. of steak on Sunday. I topped out at 2400 calories that day which is by far the most calories I have consumed in a single day in over two months.

I have lost 35.2 pounds to date in 8 1/2 weeks. I have 7 more to go to meet my goal weight of 245 by the 27th of this month. I am confident that I can do it. Clothes are starting to be an issue. My dress clothes especially. Two of my suits look like clown outfits on me. But since 245 is just a stepping stone to the 220-225 that I want to be I'll just start making holes in my belts.

Awesome Surfah. 35.2 is real weight - you know that's not water loss. And I know what you mean about diet fatigue. I took Easter off my diet, not because I wanted the candy but because I felt like I was going to fall off the wagon if I didn't take a break.

And there is nothing better than having a couple of clown suit pants around to remind you what you were.

I know I kept some of my "Big Clothes" around just to remind me that I never wanted to get that big again.

To echo nukiman 35 lbs is real wieght loss. Good job.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

I'm throwing/giving away most of my old wardrobe right now, but I'm going to keep one pair of jeans for that exact purpose. It feels great to go buy new pants and be fitting comfortably in sizes I never even thought possible.

I am suspicious that vanity sizing has made it over to the menwear department in recent years, though.

It certainly has. Certain brands are easily a size smaller than most.

I kept one shirt size xxx, one pair of Khaki's waist 46 and the suit I wore for my wedding (not quite as large, but it is way to big now).

It was a real motivator getting a new wardrobe every 3 monthes or so while I was losing. Although after the 3rd or 4th iteration, it got old.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

My wife says I ruined our wedding pictures. "You're supposed to be skinny for the wedding and then get fat, not the other way around."

I was short, fat AND bald when my wife married me, so she couldn't complain about our wedding pictures. She is actually taller than I am by two inches.
