  • The unofficial (or perhaps official) golf club/equipment thread

I don't know if we have a thread about this - I tried to search for it but found nothing but a mention here and there, but then, I'm not good at using search features so I may have missed it - but I wanted to have a thread where we could discuss what irons, drivers and woods, balls, etc. we use.

I'm in the market for a new set of clubs. I had purchased a new set a couple of years ago, but they were stolen from the trunk of my car while at a wedding reception. So I continued to use the Tommy Armour 845s Silver Scots that I've bought way back in 1990. They've been great irons, but Dangit, I want new clubs.

There are some great iron sets out there, so I have lots of choices. I've mad my first cut and the different sets that are still remaining on my wish list are (in alphabetical order by brand):

    Calloway Razr X
    Cleveland CG16
    Nike VR Pro Cavity
    TaylorMade R9

Anyone play any of these irons? If so, what do you like/dislike about them?

I'll also get a driver and fairway woods in the next little bit, but for now, I'll stick to the Wilson driver and the Adams Tight Lies fairway woods that I still have. Do you folks mix and match your drivers and woods or do you stick to the same brand for all the clubs?

I play Cleveland irons and Taylor Made woods. Although on the surface my game would seem to suggest otherwise, you can mix and match with a clean conscious.

My strategy would be to keep checking the DI donations box in the hope that some woman takes revenge on her ex-husband by donating his babies.

Bump. I'm in the market for some new golf kicks, as the ones I have now I bought before law school.

Last week I saw the Nike Air Rate and Nike Air Range and was intrigued by how light they are. Seriously, they are the lightest golf shoes I've ever seen.

However, i'm not thrilled about the available colors. More recently, I saw the Adidas AdiPure Nouvo, and now I can't stop thinking about them.

That is just a beautiful golf shoe. Now if I can convince myself that $160 isn't too much for golf shoes. :S

I have numerous Nike and Adidas golf shoes over the years. Comfort wise they all seem about the same, though I like the looks of the 3 stripes a little better. For the last 2 years i have been wearing Ecco golf shoes. They are by far the most comfortable pair I've ever owned. They are also surprising durable. After 75+ rounds their is hardly a mark on them, even on the right toe which always scuffs on normal shoes. Much like a good pair of sunglasses (*cough* which Doh'Nuts backed out of getting *cough*) they are well worth the price.

I've yet to see a pair of Ecco golf shoes that wasn't super clunky. Maybe that's why they're so comfortable. From what I've seen, they don't come in varied widths, and their standard with is too wide for my narrow feet. Also, they are for old men.

I would avoid the brown adidas.

Just like Ecco dress shoes (which I own 4 or 5 pairs of) you have to look for the styles with a narrow toe box. For some reason the Danes seem to like rounded or squared toes.

This is the pair I currently have and yes they are old man shoes. I guess I've reached the age where I'm choosing comfort over style.

Guys, I had both the brands mentioned and they were great. However nothing could even come close to approaching the comfort and durability of my Oakley golf shoes. They are by far the most comfortable shoes (not just golf shoes) I've ever owned. Check 'em out.

How good can something be when you leave them with some creepy old man guy you golfed with for several months?
