It's a huge mountain, you could take Bridger Gondola and everything north of it and still have a top ski resort without even including the Tram and everything that it opens up. It's definity a big boy hill, I only went up the tram once all day and that was plenty for me. I'm old enough that I love the groomers and just doing by best Ted Ligety impression of just big craving GS turns all day, I found plenty of that off of the Teton Lift and the Gondola. It was fun.

When the weather is good the views up at Targhee are unmatched by any other place I've every skied before. It warmed up enough Saturday that it had melted a little and then froze that night. The snow was solid but not icey, the fastest snow I'd ever skied on. You could fly. It started to soften up again about 1 but it was still great. The mountain was groomed and fast, I had a blast.
I love those two mountains. Teton Village (when there is snow) is the gold standard to me, and it's insane how Whistler-Blackcomb still dwarfs it.

Sunday we continued trying to use days on our Mountain Collective pass with a day at SnowBasin. I like it as well as any other resort in Utah but it's just not as nice as Big Sky. My wife isn't a great skier and her goal is to try and not to get hurt it was the little lift all day for her. The difference between the LittleCat lift and the next level up is pretty huge and the LittleCat is about as easy as a beginner lift gets. My biggest beef with Utah resorts is all the short steep sections followed by an almost flat section and it goes like that all the way down the mountain. It was a beautiful day and crowded, so much for thinking Sunday may be just a little better than a Saturday.

The good days in Central Oregon are when Bachelor is still open into late June, so you can ski in the morning and golf in the afternoon. Then pond skimming and other late season activities finish off in July.

I heard on the news last night that, if the snow and cooler temperatures continue, there is a chance Mammoth could stay open all year. I guess that happened back in the 80s.

We do have a spring break trip planned for Palisades Tahoe in a few weeks. I’m looking forward to seeing how that is.

I was up at Canyons/PC last week for Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Same report-as good as it gets.

Today, I have my first track practice, so I would like winter to start planning to go away.

I did go up to Sundance from Provo for a solo day visit early in our trip. What a blast. Everything from renting skis at BYU Outdoors Unlimited to driving less than 15 minutes to be at the resort to enjoying the beautiful scenery and small crowds was wonderful.

I’m looking to go local this weekend. It’s warm, but there has been a lot of precipitation. Maybe we’ll get up closer to BP sometime in the next several weeks.

We skied out of the main base area riding the SwiftCurrent and Ramcatcher lifts-and they made anything I usually ride at Park City/Canyons look like Watts-and I am talking summer of 1968 Watts. The lodges were not as nice as Sun Valley but they were as good as PC. They had record early season snow-just like Grand Targhee, so it was a fabulous Thanksgiving week day. Most I visited with who are locals or ski there exclusively said it was the best opening week they had ever seen. Apparently, Big Sky can be as rocky early season as Targhee but I think I might have seen a couple of baby pines sticking up through the snow. It was fabulous conditions and the drive there from Island Park was like the introductions of a thousand Hallmark Christmas movies!

Our boys and girls play in Carey's Holiday Tournament this Friday and Saturday (teams are Rockland, Salmon, Wood River and Carey) so I was considering spending the morning at Sun Valley but alas the snow will not allow me to get there early enough to ski up there Friday morning. Next opportunity to ski will be mid December down at PC.

To anyone who likes skiing take RC's advice and hit up Big Sky-lots of terrain and the amenities are a bit of another world. Listen to this man, people!
My brother in law grew up in Tahoe, skiing at Squaw Valley and Alpine 5-10 days per month during season. He and his family take a week long trip to Big Sky every winter. They love it there!

This is a good video that talks about Snowbird and it's beginner area.
Ha ha. I heard the term “laughable” in there. Maybe we’ll save Snowbird for another season.
