About 45 minutes into the class I get a call from Brighton Ski School telling me that she checked out completely and didn't want to do it. I made my way over to the ski school and found her there at the table coloring and drinking hot chocolate. When I asked why she had bugged out, she started crying and said, 'I fell." I asked her if she assumed she was going to be really good her first time and never fall. She said, "Yes." () I guess in all my exuberance and preparation, I failed to tell her that falling is pretty normal, especially on your very first day ever. She asked if she would get better and I said that she probably would. Then she went back out to the class. So besides w.a.s.t.ing about 35 minutes of the lesson, the overall final result was great. She had a fun time and wanted to stay and ski all afternoon. We stayed until 4 and then headed home. After about 10 minutes in the car, she zonked out for the rest of the car ride.

One unfortunate effect of her missing a chunk of the class...she missed the part when they learn how to turn. So i was trying all sorts of things to try to explain to her how to turn. In the end, pretending to be an airplane seemed to be the best thing.

The weather was insane. It felt about mid 50s on the hill. By 2, we both were skiing in t-shirts and we ditched our gloves entirely. Even then it was really warm. The snow wasn't great, but it was still a fun time. Glad I went.

Also, Aquaphor was there giving away free tubes of lip balm. Free! so sorry that none of you were given a free tube of lip balm today
Great report. You're doing a heckuva job as Dad. These are the things your kids will remember. My oldest daughter had a writing assignment in an English class up at the U that was to be about anything she wanted to write about. She checked with me to make sure she got the details correct about when I took her to see a stage production of Barney when she was 3 years old. It was really nice for me to think that that's what she wanted to write about. The only thing she really didn't remember was that we saw it at the McKay Events Center at UVU. I was surprised that she would even remember I took her.

Everywhere in the West has crazy weather. We are in Jackson Hole this weekend. Temps in the mid 40s at the top of the tram. Slush in the am and ice in the afternoon. Like you I am glad I went.

      • Is Tall Tim still at Brighton Ski School? That guy taught me in a class when my dad was an instructor at Brighton. He was awesome, the cool part was that when I worked at Brighton 12 years later he remembered me.

          • I realize that it's early summer and the Wasatch front is baking but new gear is starting to arrive at the local shops. There are still deals on last year's stuff as well. Just picked up a pair of 194 Volkl Gotama at sports den.

I drove by HooDoo on my way to Redmond and back last Saturday, and it was snowing at the pass. I was thinking there might be a good chance of a Thanksgiving opening.

With temps in the 40's here, it looks like my golfing days are over for a few months.

Hostile, do you take your kids or do you go solo?
