LA Weekly is the shiz. I read it all the time. you can read it online now, though, fyi. Although it is still ubiquitous and every liquor store, mexican food joint, bar, and newsstand in the greater LA area.Originally posted by creekster View PostYUp. That was the only reason I ever went to the liquor store. really.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Kids are people. I'd rather burn a bridge with the parents than destroy the trust the kid felt in confiding in you. If the kid is a friend (I'm friends with my neighbor kids. I genuinely like them. They come over and hang out. They like me and Faith better than Little Robin), then I would hear her out in a public place. If the situation is serious enough, I would follow Solon's advice. If she is simply looking for some extra-parental parenting (ie. a 2nd opinion), and if you think you have some wisdom to impart, then share it. As long as you aren't breaking the law, and you aren't putting yourself in a compromising situation (stay in public places), then I see no harm in finding out what the kid is concerned about. Treating youth as fully realized persons is generally a good strategy. I had adult friends when I was a child, and those were some of my most memorable friendships. There isn't anything weird about this.
But I'm assuming a lot about your relationship with this girl. Is she a friend?

It was great when Ilived in LA, as it showed me every week just how cool I wasn't. But now that I am in the Bay Area, I have many other sources to define my non-coolness, formeost of which is my 17 year old daughter.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostLA Weekly is the shiz. This is the right answer. And I'm with Babs. Why does she have your cell and why does she feel comfortable talking with you about this? My guess is that you've already done some inappropriate flirting with her. I really get pissed at the young men's leaders and other ward members that flirt with the YW. I have YW daughters. There's always at least a couple in every ward that do it. If you're a YM leader, stick to the YM. Leave the YW alone.Originally posted by Slim View PostI'd tell the parents. If it ever comes out that she called you and talked to you about it and you never told them then it might make things weird.
The girl will probably feel totally betrayed and hate you forever but she is 15 so who really cares.

We already know he's her Sunday School teacher. I see no problem with a Sunday School teacher having his kids' phone numbers, and them having the teacher's.Originally posted by jay santos View PostThis is the right answer. And I'm with Babs. I like Robin's point-of-view (posted elsewhere in this thread)."More crazy people to Provo go than to any other town in the state."

I like Robin's point-of-view too. I also have a lot of kid friends. And, as I'm sure you have guessed.... I follow safety policies. The neediest of them are desperately looking for safe adults to mentor them.Originally posted by Solon View PostWe already know he's her Sunday School teacher. I like Robin's point-of-view (posted elsewhere in this thread).
OTOH, I'm also suspicious of Sunday School Teachers who have close enough relationships with their students to have exchanged cell numbers. That's kind of reaching outside one's stewardship. Sunday School is for Sunday. In my experience, sometimes the most "attentive" and "involved" leaders are NOT the most trustworthy ones. Jay Santos is right on: YM leaders and Sunday School teachers need to STOP flirting with the YW. It's disgusting, inappropriate, and hurtful to the girls. Let the YM do the flirting!
But like Robin said... the REAL question is what kind of relationship H8 has with the girl. That's always the question, isn't it?

And, ladies and gentlemen, THAT is the question!Originally posted by Babs View Postwhy does a 15-year-old have your cell?
You'll make one helluva lawyer, lady."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.
The rest of us rarely bother to think about our actions." --Solon
