Sports are a manipulations of our instincts for war and tribalism, religion is a manipulation of our instinct to trust our elders and to bond with kin and to defend the tribe, among others. Junk food is a manipulation of our cravings for sugar, fat, and salt left over from a time when such things were rare, and their consumption was of great benefit.

Porn has some downsides, to be sure, but manipulation of our primitive impulses, per se, isn't among them.
Woot's perspective on porn appears to address the psychological aspects of porn, or in some respects its sociological roots.

Sleepin in Elders' Quorum appears to address an aesthetic perspective on porn.

So it does not appear that Woot and Sleeping in Elders Quorum are speaking the same language.

Of course, Topper could be off base. Topper often is.

Topper seems very interested in porn in all its permutations.

Topper is interested in the thoughts of others on many subjects, but Topper has no particular insights on porn itself. Now popcorn, that is an entirely different subject or commodity.

This is the only post I will address. This is an old thread. Considering what has transpired in the sports world in recent months, I don't need to say any more about child exploitation and it's direct links to so called soft core, or mainstream pornography and the over sexualization of our society.

DU Ute, if you must know, I live in Canada. A close relative of mine, as a concerned and influential citizen, played an instrumental role in the changes that have been made to the Canadian criminal code to date concerning the creation, possession and distribution of child pornography, as well as, the age of sexual consent, raising it from 14 to 16 years of age. My relative has appeared in parliament and on television multiple times as an expert advocate fighting against child sexual exploitation.

While being argued in a variety of courts, most importantly the supreme court of Canada, laws drafted prior to 1993 against the possession of child pornography had been rendered void, specifically in the province of British Colombia which affected all other laws in all other provinces. For a period of nearly ten years, and specifically a two year period in the early 2000's, law enforcement in Canada could not charge individuals for possession of child pornography because there were no laws criminalizing possession of child porn while the issue of "artistic merit" in porn was being argued. It should be noted that the so-called soft core or main stream porn industry had a vested interest in the outcome of these deliberations and contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to the cause in favor of child pornography, even paying the legal fees of certain, known and previously convicted pedophiles.

As of 2011 there are now laws in place criminalizing possession of child pornography that carry the minimum penalty of 16 days in jail but more often result in probation and house arrest.

          • I just wonder, will this movie be more popular with men or women?

I believe that women will be the main audience which is rather ironic as this deals with the creation of one of the first electrical devices to be registered with a patent.

I will note that body piercings were also popular with upper class women in Victorian England. Maybe, even in repressed societies, the desire for humans to connect to a sexual aspect of their being will come out.

I agree, but I'd say that especially in repressed society. It'll just be well hidden.
