Unless you can point us to official church statements claiming that full-time GA's don't get compensated, please stop with this strawman nonsense."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

You should probably read my first post in this thread a few posts up. I very clearly said "I swear we already knew this--that they've already admitted to this."Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostUnless you can point us to official church statements claiming that full-time GA's don't get compensated, please stop with this strawman nonsense.

Also, I don't have to point you to anything official. BYU71 a few posts up said this was made very clear to him as a young man, and that the story seemed to change later. Apparently, by the response by people online, the church didn't exactly bend over backwards to get the word out and some people feel lied to. I don't. As I said, I was already under the impression GA's got paid.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostUnless you can point us to official church statements claiming that full-time GA's don't get compensated, please stop with this strawman nonsense.

I don't consider it a big deal because I don't consider GA's or church statements to always be the word of God.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostUnless you can point us to official church statements claiming that full-time GA's don't get compensated, please stop with this strawman nonsense.
There have been through the years things said that skirted the truth at the very least. Again I don't understand if the is a "killer" for someone they have to make it a "killer" for someone else.
Also if someone felt they were deceived, why does someone the need to convince them they weren't.
I remember someone claiming the church never taught birth control was of the devil. If someone becomes that inflexible either way, there will be a hard landing.

Believer in what. I will check with JL though he is quite the know it all. I think my position though on gay marriage may be closer to that of the churches. Doesn't bother me though that he seems be be the authority on the church and I am just a lowly patron.Originally posted by taekwondave View PostWill someone design an emoji of a whooshing sound to represent something about all your previous relationships and inside jokes going a mile over my head? I wasn't aware that BYU71 wasn't a believer. Is he not?

If someone makes an incorrect assumption out of ignorance or naivete, why do they feel the need to convince everyone else that the church lied to them?Originally posted by byu71 View PostI don't consider it a big deal because I don't consider GA's or church statements to always be the word of God.

The church manages $6B+ annually in tithing revenues and holds $30B+ in assets. If you think the top 15 executives of an organization like that are compensated less than $120k per year, then you have a very immature view of the world. I don't give a crap if the church "lied" to you to give you your immature view of the world or not.Originally posted by taekwondave View PostSo I guess it's not that they get paid that bothers people, it's that they seemed to suggest they didn't, and somehow tried to score brownie points for it, and now we see that it's not true and people are miffed. I get it.
That said, what Jay Santos just said doesn't sit right with me. "Very immature view of the world?" So now that we're all grown up we should all expect every church, even the true one, to make up lies to make itself look more true? I don't know if I get what you're saying there. I think, if the church really was knowingly trying to score brownie points off of a lie, that people have a right to be bothered by that. Nobody should be mad that they get paid--in fact I think a good argument could be made that they should be mad that more church leaders aren't paid, like bishops, but it's a kind of sick gaslighting to say "Oh you thought we were telling the truth? You child. You infant. Grow up."
