I guess I'm not convinced that he is a sex addict. I think most men are "sex addicts" in the same sense that he was, i.e. attracted to women and would really, really like to bone the women they are attracted to, especially if it could be done in a vacuum (in, not with!) where it wouldn't be discovered and/or affect their personal life. Succumbing to that temptation when the opportunity presents itself doesn't make you an addict. Intentionally putting yourself in that position and then doing your best to seal the deal doesn't make you and addict. And no, even ripping the close off of someone and attempting to rape them doesn't make you an addict. It makes you a stupid man who is not good at controlling his urges.

Really hard to know whether he is an addict from the outside. The question is whether he knows of the tremendous cost involved in his activities, and is still compelled to go through with that self-destructive action, or whether he just thinks he won't get caught. I think the information we have allows for both interpretations, with neither really able to be proved in the context of this discussion.

I agree. He's also a pathological liar who has come to believe his own lies. It was never as bad as it really was because he's conned himself and bought into the false narrative. This is why he won't or can't remember doing what he did to her.

This is not exclusive of addict behavior. Addiction is all about self-delusion.

Does Dehlin talk about that type of stuff? My take is his angle on this interview would be the investigative reporting on the widespread coverup..blahblahblahblah.

I turned the audio on some of the live FB interview he had with McKnight at work. They certainly covered that. Also Dehlin asked how McKnight was sure the audio was legit. He said he couldn't divulge how he knew it was Bishop talking, only that it was verified. I suppose the swift Deseret Book action speaks to its authenticity.

This. What exactly is his addiction? That he can't control himself assaulting women who are under his ecclesiastical control? The transcript reads pretty convincingly that he doesn't deny the allegations, and refers to others. The multiple references to 'addiction' are a cop out. Like his half-assed confessions to his authorities (I can't be the only one who did this with porn and, um, other behaviors), he is trying to put reprehensible behavior in the best light possible. Hence, blame an addiction.

I normally don’t pay any attention to any of this stuff anymore, but something about a victim getting the opportunity to face her assailant got me interested enough to read the transcript. What a despicable human. Makes me sick. It’s like strait out of an SVU episode. Yuck.

Joseph L. Bishop, Jr. is the guy in the transcript. I think that is a picture of Joseph L. Bishop, Sr. Senior was (apparently) the president of Weber St.

Joseph L. Bishop attended Brigham Young University and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Spanish. While in office at Weber, he wrote many articles for professional publications. It was during Bishop’s term that the Dee Events Center was dedicated. At the end of his tenure, he received from Weber State College an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree.

Junior attended SUU, not BYU, per the transcript. At least, not BYU for his undergrad.

Edit: I guess it could be Junior, since one of his book reviews says he was President of Weber. Well, whatever.

Did you read the transcript? The guy said he was president of Weber State at one point in time. That is the guy.
