    Should be fun.
Been there several times already. It is really comforting to know that they care about my spiritual well being.

Unfortunately, not many of them really want to talk about the things that I have issue with. They usually try to take the angle of wanting to know who offended me in the ward, or in past wards(they are quick to say that it won't happen here). It is hard for many of them to accept that I have prayed, researched, agonized, questioned, etc, but have come to a different conclusion than they have.

Let's cut to the chase. Which one was it?

Maybe you've mentioned this before, but I only see repeated oblique references to it: what are "the things"?

I mentioned it, but it was likely 7 pages ago. Anyway. The 2 primary issues for me were polygamy and the priesthood ban. Even when I was very active and engaged, these 2 issues really set me back. They are the 500# gorillas for me. It is not the historical facts of these issues that were the problem, but it dealt with the nagging hole in my testimony about the "trueness" of the church. In ways that some people would understand(and others may not), they ate at me in the "Do I believe in a God that would promote these doctrines?" way. When I finally decided that I needed to confront these feelings more openly(talking with family, bishops, etc) I was taken back at the angle that more than a few of these people took. They really didn't want to address what I asked as much as "What is wrong in your personal life that is blocking you from understanding this? Are you having an affair, are you viewing porn, do you abuse your spouse/kids" It was really bizarre and frightening at the same time. After going through this for awhile, I started to do some of my own research on the topics, and in doing so, I found many 25# monkeys and 100# chimps as well. The summation of all of the unanswered questions and conflicting history finally brought the whole house down around me.

Most were more subtle than 2 of my bishops(who both had the same line of questioning, despite being separated by state lines and 2 years time), but the implications were usually the same: There is something wrong with you, not with the church.

This is too bad. The inability to accept institutional wrongs comes pretty standard with most organizations, but its sad to see this filter down to making people feel as if there might be something wrong in their life if they have questions.

I was abusing my polygamous wife.

                        I'm on it.

Oh dang...I'm not a priesthood leader.

So you're simply going to pass by the wounded man at the side of the road, like some priest or Levite?
