  • I just watched the video. What a schmuck. I am curious why anyone thinks they didn't read the letter. He asked for a "show of hands" and no one raised their hand (after it was made clear they would not engage him but would allow him to make a statement). If I had been there, I wouldn't play along with his little reindeer game, either. Raise your own hand, bozo.

I think there are a few interesting questions in his letter that merit discussion in the correct time and place. But this little charade (from Runnells side, as I think the SP was trying to be sincere and was unaware that this was primarily a set up for the video) is not that time or place. I don't know who supports this guy, but he is pathetic and embarrassing.

I don't understand how people like this view the church. The church/gospel is made for man, right? So study it, use it, rely on it IF IT HELPS YOU. If it doesn't, then move on, but this endless wallowing and self-pity and angst is beyond pointless; it's a waste of EVERYONE'S time. I feel sorry the SP, the HC and for anyone who thinks this guy and his letter are meaningful.
    PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I remember when Dehlin got in some tussle over something back in the day and it came to light that, when he told his side of the story, he selectively left out certain things so as to make him look better. Made me laugh given that one of his biggest criticisms of the church is that it's not forthcoming about its history. Guess we all selectively tell our side of the story.

The full thing is on Youtube...although then again, who knows if this is the whole thing or if it has been edited:

"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Well, after a very short review of the video, it seems pretty clear that the SP did read the CES letter, as he quotes from it extensively in supporting the apostasy charge. Then Runnells goes and edits the video to appear as if no one read it at all. How does he expect others to respect him after he pulls a stunt like that?

          I'll take this one.

He expects it because if there's one thing Mos and ExMos have in common...it's that they will believe anything said on their side of the isle.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

He edited the video to make it appear no one read it? What do you mean. I watched the video. At one point, he asks if anyone read the CES Letter, and then you hear silence and he says something like "oh no one?". You think people said yes and he edited it? I think most likely regardless of whether anyone read it the SP told everyone not to respond to Jeremy in any way. Probably because they knew it was being recorded.

Of course not. What he did do was leave out of his "highlight" version the portions where the SP was reading directly from the letter. Instead, he includes only the portion where the SP and the council choose not to engage him in his stupid game when he asks who has read it. He knew they had read it. They in fact had just read portions of it directly to him!

                • I'm no HC expert, but my understanding is that the HC is just told to show up, find out what's going on while there, then offer some perspective to the stake presidency. So, kinda stupid to ask that. But maybe he didn't know that.

My sample size is small. 3 adultery cases. All pretty much the same. 2 guys exed. The third guy disfellowshipped was the son of a prominent guy in the stake. Hmmm. So maybe not a kanagroo court, but my experience left a marsupial taste in my mouth... Maybe a bilby.

I watched the full version. I think you must have watched the short version. I didn't see that one. After watching the full version, I think it's possible the SP never read the CES Letter. I think he says directly that he didn't. And even repeats himself when Jeremy asked again in dismay. I thought the part that was controlled was when he asked the other high councilman. It was clear they were coached not to respond. Also, it seemed like maybe the text the SP read that was drawing out examples of apostasy behavior was written by someone else (Salt Lake?). He kept tripping over words.

                      Agree. He was very combative.

                        • It blows my mind that anyone would think this guy doesn't deserve a response from the church. Good riddance.

Videotaped from Jeremy's perspective. Released on exmo reddit by someone saying over and over, this account has nothing to do with Jeremy. Yeah...

The church can boot him if they want, but I think the Church comes off looking foolish, petty, and insecure--even when the person on trial looks the same.

They should have just sent him a letter.
