Tent City! Tent City! Tent City!
We had a guy bear his testimony in Sunday that talked about the preppers. The guy works at the local cannery and talked about how they lee running out of stuff because so many people are buying food storage because they believe something will happen in September. He kind of made light of it, which was funny. Then he closed his testimony with "well, if we go (meaning, die) then at least we'll all go together as a ward family"
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

There was a guy in our HPG meeting that mentioned that the local cannery up this way was out of stuff. I made the comment as a joke that I was just in the local gun store and they had plenty of ammo left but we should maybe get it while we could. The guy agreed with me.Originally posted by Moliere View PostWe had a guy bear his testimony in Sunday that talked about the preppers. Just how when they saw the Facebook threads posted on a "BYU football" site the Rowe people knew for sure there was a mole and so started to purge their Facebook group and when they couldn't find the mole just shut it down.Originally posted by falafel View PostTent City! Tent City! Tent City!

Don't people realize that when they are paranoid about a "mole" they've already gone around the bend?Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostJust how when they saw the Facebook threads posted on a "BYU football" site the Rowe people knew for sure there was a mole and so started to purge their Facebook group and when they couldn't find the mole just shut it down.We all trust our own unorthodoxies.

"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

This won't end well.
1. Person receives vivid dream / vision
2. Person interprets vision within realm of existing belief framework, and says that it augments existing doctrine.
3. Person receives local notoriety
4. Person is seen as a visionary, seer, or prophet, all in support of existing doctrine
5. Person has growing following, attracts the attention of existing belief authorities, who react with caution.
6. Person receives additional visions, each one stepping a little further outside existing framework
7. Given the growing chasm between belief systems, followers pick person over existing church
8. Person makes statements unacceptable to existing church
9. Church threatens excommunication
10. Person leaves, taking group of followers with her.

Julie Rowe reminds me of this person, who was once LDS.

I wonder who the mole really was, though.
Actually, that guy who popped up in rando defense of this on page 1 might have been the one who ratted us out to begin with.

I don't get this. I mean, they like being made fun of - no one does. I'm sure there was some small part of Noah who was thinking "I can't wait for all of you SOB's to drown".Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostJust how when they saw the Facebook threads posted on a "BYU football" site the Rowe people knew for sure there was a mole and so started to purge their Facebook group and when they couldn't find the mole just shut it down.
But in this instance, if they truly feel like they are a warning voice and want people to be ready, why do they care? What is a mole going to do? Tell everyone that there is a group of people prepping? Are there secret meetings? Is there a limited supply of "prep" that someone can get and they don't want others to get theirs? Would they really rather that some people who are actually interested in their message and ideas NOT hear about it because it cuts off some of the people who are laughing?
Seriously - what do they lose by having a mole?

Excellent point. If the objective is truly to warn the world, why the secrecy? These people are shameless.Originally posted by Eddie View PostI don't get this.
