I have seen several people on the left today say it was a textbook case in how not to respond/behave during an interview.

I’m honestly dumbfounded at the whole thing. Hawley is a certified jackass so hopefully she was just not playing to his schtick but I doubt it.

GOP: our dear leader orchestrated a coup on the government so basically all you have to do is not be weird

Liberals: “people with a capacity to become pregnant”

GOP: seriously, it’s your election to lose

Liberals: Latinx people are like tacos

Exactly. It’s unbelievable how stupid they are.

I've been reading comments in the local (Bay Area) rags and the most common reaction, even among the lefties, is that she did a really poor job-- how does a Berkeley law professor make make Hawley seem even halfway good?

It’s because her theology is incorrect.

What cracks me up is when progmos insist on calling members of the church “Mormon” as a pejorative (becssue the church is trying to leave that word behind) but they then go to great lengths to use correct labels for people like “people with the capacity to become pregnant.” It’s hilarious and frankly offensive to furries who aren’t people since they identify as animals but they can also become pregnant.

Also, saying abortion rights are womens health care is also transphobic since men can get pregnant.

                  This is an excellent point.

Hawley has a similar academic/professional record as Ted Cruz who is also constantly underrated because he's not part of the cool crowd. Yale Law Journal editor, clerk to John Roberts.

By contrast, the Berkeley Law Professor appears to live in the corner of the academic world that was *this close to publishing James Lindsay's feminist-retrofitted Mein Kampf. Not exactly rigorous scholarship. That idiocy was fully on display yesterday.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

                          steelman is gender exclusive language.

Can we all agree that Hawley's a smug jackass and that it would feel amazing to break his mouth? I'd find myself on the side of nearly any philosophy that he's against just to stick it in his eye. His sterling academic background makes his behavior even worse.

She also did an awful job when questioned about the rights of the unborn. I support access to abortion services. However, what doesn't help this debate is to refuse to acknowledge that the unborn has rights. An unborn child has rights. Also, a pregnant woman also has rights. The abortion debate needs to change to a discussion of a balance of these rights. Sometimes the balance weighs in favor of the woman's rights and allowing the abortion. Sometimes in weighs in favor of the unborn's rights and not allowing the abortion. The left is going to lose this battle if they keep up the rhetoric they are pushing on the fringes right now.

Why do you assume it's used as a pejorative? I use "Mormon" because the alternative is too long. There are Catholics, Jews, Muslims, Methodists, Baptists and Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. People don't want to use that many words to refer to a religion. If the Church wanted an alternative to Mormon, they should have chosen something shorter. Maybe Latter Day Saint. Three words is still excessive, but at least there is precedence with Seventh Day Adventist.
