Why are you upset about this? Does this mean that all contribution numbers will be sent back to local authorities? I didn't see that in the press release.

The Church’s Finance and Records Department says the initial site not only demonstrated a simplified donation process for members, but also showed that this new approach reduced the load on local leaders and clerks charged with processing donations.

It's good they needed to test the site to realize this. Obviously there are other benefits, but everyone should use it for this reason alone.

It's already been beta tested. The phased rollout is probably for load testing. When they rolled out the family search website, the system was overwhelmed when they rolled out to the Wasatch front. Hopefully they have learned their lesson. I'll bet this is very popular with members under 60, except for preppers that still pay everything in cash.

The tithing settlement process always began 10/15. Tithing settlement itself typically began a month later. Did the letter say to begin interviews that early?

I remember bishops always being able to start it as early as October, but none of them do. Probably because most people feel an obligation to have paid their annual tithing amount before declaring.

Why didn't they rollout a tithing declaration check box with the new online payment system? Could have saved people a ton of time.

The last 2 years, instructions said not to start any earlier than Nov 15th.

I was a finance clerk from 2008-13. The same instructions were used every year, and every year the interviews started on Nov. 15th. Originally, the Year-to-date donation records were to be distributed a month before TS, but that was eventually changed to a week before. Not like anyone ever actually reviewed them before TS anyway, though.

I pay once a year at tax time. I think it's wrong to pay it monthly because you don't feel the pinch quite as badly. All of you who pay each month don't really know the meaning of sacrifice.

I always donate stock in April when I finalize our tax return.

Why April instead of December? Unless you're on a fiscal tax year (which I've only seen once for an individual), the time value of the donation is greatest in late December.

I pay my tithing in stock options in my own company. If I ever make it big, the Church will have a huge windfall.

What's the expiration date on the options? Strike price? Does that class of shares entitle them to any voting rights? Are you using Black-Scholes for the valuation, or some other method? I suggest using the Trumpian method - it's worth whatever you feel like at the moment.
