I'm actually happy they issued something and it seems they worded it in a way that the doctrine could change in the future without ruffling too many orthodox feathers. I understand the heresy/apostasy issue, but it's clear the church is worried about groups building up a following and then using that influence to pull people out of the body of the church. There's clearly precedence for this, although OW is nowhere near the extreme of other groups that have done this.

The inclusion of the word "practice" is somewhat weird, but I don't think it's something that merits much attention. I guess I've just resigned myself to the fact that in the LDS church, which is a non-creedal religion, often times our practices are our doctrine. It's some of hte beauty of our religion and also some of the difficulty in times like this since it's tough to excommunicate someone for apostasy heresy when the doctrine is so fluidly defined.

When you set me apart for this special internet mission, you said in part... "the internet was invented for man to step up and identify himself before God." At first, I didn't fully understand what that meant, but now I'm beginning to see. As we gather information on the internet we sift through what we like, and don't like, and store the nuggets in our hearts, only to be revealed years later in little comments that define who we are. I can see that the thoughts of ones mind reflects the disposition of one's heart. If you see Jesus in one of your "FP/Q12 council meetings" tell him "well played."

I don't know why you're so concerned about "church practice" when it comes to Mtn Dew at Ward sponsored activities when the reason there are no such beverages is because there is simply no demand for them.

            LOL.

Actually, I tested this once. I was asked to bring drinks to a ward activity so in addition to LDS accepted drinks I also supplied a few bottles of Coke/Diet Coke. I noticed that peer pressure kept folks from drinking the coke/diet coke so I had it pretty much all to myself. It is kind of like the old joke about why you have to take more than one mormon fishing to protect your beer.

We go to a friend's house almost every Memorial Day and they have leaded and unleaded drinks available. I've noticed that most people will be walking around with unleaded drinks. However, I always pull out a Diet Coke and after that people seem a bit less ashamed to go for the lead.

I also once asked the YM what type of drinks they wanted at a pool party and some wanted Pepsi....so I brought it along with other drinks. The bishop spent the better part the evening trying to tell the priests (whose parents had told them no to drink leaded drinks) why it's okay to drink them. I just spent the evening playing around in the pool and let the bishop handle the weird WoW questionsl.
