Sterling McMurrin said that the LDS Church treats its members like children. What I'm hearing essentially is that Kate can ask for the priesthood but she has to ask mommy and daddy nicely. There's just no way the LDS Church can come off any way other than condescending and self-important to a delusional degree. Kate is absolutely devastating them.

There are various types of severence deals. I don't think the church would be so happy to see you go that you would get a severence package. However, SU might get one.

I care because I love my church, believe in my church, and I have 3 daughters that I'd like to grow up in this church....but I'd much prefer that they be in a church that treats men and women equally, with obvious considerations for gender differences. I'd prefer that to be my church.

I've always thought of it as Christ's church, but maybe that's just me.
