Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.
It'll be worse if she gets exed. You can almost write the headline now "woman agitating for women's rights gets excommunicated from Mormon church by all male church council"
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
Her husband will be attending grad school in Kenya. She's in Utah visiting family before the big overseas move. Her records are still in D.C., although her bishop knew the entire time that she was leaving the country. The timing is deliberate.
So the church springs this great coordinated campaign launching simultaneous proceedings involving people around the country and they go out of their way to schedule it all around this woman's travel plans? That's giving them a lot of credit.
Plenty. But back then people knew how to do apostasy right! If OW was advocating women doing ordinances without the proper authority, or starting their own church, etc. that would rise to the level of the apostates in Joseph's time. Same with John Dehlin. If he started his own branch for gays and made himself Bishop and started marrying them, that would fit too.

I have no idea regarding the church at large. I mean that her bishop was aware of her plans and has been for months now. This wasn't some last minute whim to move to Africa. She has not been disciplined prior to leaving D.C. in preparation to leave the county. It's not a great stretch to me that the timing is deliberate on the part of her D.C. leadership.

If it was deliberate timing on the bishop's part, then the fact that all the other disciplinary proceedings were triggered within the same few days either means the church is either incredibly well coordinated or it was all an incredible coincidence after all.
Are they "teaching" this? Or are like minded people coming together in the internet age? Also, what exactly about petitioning for ordination of women is false doctrine? Where is the scriptural or historical basis for excluding women? From prohibiting women from giving or participating in blessings for instance?

Nobody will care. Eventually she'll be a footnote in obscure Mormon publications, just below Sonia Johnson.

It is an interesting move strategically. Instead of being more inclusive, this will look like the opposite, whether intended that way or not. The focus lately seems to have been on thorny historical issues because that's what gets the attention in terms of why people are leaving. But I think there is a significant number of disaffected who care a lot more about what the Church is teaching and doing today than what happened 150+ years ago. I'd include myself in this group. I have said it before but the historical stuff doesn't really resonate with me. My concerns have much more to do with the way the Church and some of its members act today.
Of the two, the OW concerns me much more. In spite of the name of their organization, by all accounts their purpose has been to be heard by the brethren and for the brethren to pray for revelation on the topics. Hardly apostasy in the true sense of the word. Kate Kelly appears to me to be a faithful believing woman who thinks this is an issue that should be addressed and brought to the attention of the powers that be.
John Dehlin on the other hand had to have seen this coming and his actions particularly in recent months make it look like he was asking for it ...

This is good news because now it's clear what the LDS Church is and people aren't going to decide to continue to be part of the LDS Church based on some delusion that it is something other than what it is (some of us have never been confused). If you're progressive from an individual liberty or civil rights standpoint, the LDS Church is a bad institution. It's that simple. And the 12, the President, etc. are bad people.
There it is, Mr. Monson, I dare you to excommunicate me for that.
Why would you need to be excommunicated if you have never been confused?
Rock (I think) was informed that a 70 gave his bishop the letter/instructions. Beyond that we don't know anything. I have a hard time believing BKP would be worried about anything other than his health at this point, but could be. Obviously it goes beyond the 70s since we're talking about at least three different locations.
If you want my opinion (and I know all of you do!), this is about demographics and statistics. The Church believes that the disaffected crowd is small (I agree, although, I think it's larger than they think) and that it's largely irredeemable. Probably true. They are also concerned about the non-disaffected "sinning" crowd - all the women I've seen in Utah county wearing gym clothes all day because they couldn't bother to change back into Authorized Pattern, or all the families showing up at Costco on Sunday. So they are going to prune the wild olive branch and nourish (read: chasten) the natural. I don't doubt that they expect mass resignations from this (several are being planned as we speak), and I think their general attitude is "good riddance".
That sounds pretty consistent with today's press release. I think it is a smart move, if your objective is to prevent further apostasy.

you probably don't care, but you really come across as a schill with posts like this.
