It's not that I don't think human rights are important, but it isn't what is most important here, and instead of talking about the Savior, the focus is on other items. Right now, the focus is squarely on these two individuals. I get that they have causes, but it may be time for them to step back and realize what church should be primarily about. Not individual causes, but a singular cause, the relationship with our Savior.

Yes, I am going to disclaim this with the fact that I think as a church, we have a long ways to go to get to this point. I think we fall dramatically short. I don't care for the exaltation of JS as much as it gets at times, though I understand the need to teach, and recognize him as a prophet. A flawed man, but a prophet. But IMO, everything taught at church, including JS and the restoration, should focus on the Savior, our relationship with him, and his love for us.

    Just my two cents.
    Good post, Sizzle. #JBH

      Sizzle:

Which of the following is less important or somehow separable from following the savior:

      1) Equal rights for blacks (in and outside religion)
      2) Equal rights for women (in and outside religion)
      3) Equal rights for gays (in and outside religion)

You seem to separate these things from your notion of Christ. I find that fascinating. Please explain your rationale for what is "most important" and how you distinguish human rights from worship of the divine.

I am guessing that you take a predominantly supernatural approach to your view of divinity rather than emphasizing a practical application of principles.

If I thought there was any chance of having an honest, sincere and open discussion with you, I would take the time to respond. With that having been said, I'm going to go enjoy spending time with my family.

            In Kate Kelly's own words:

"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

Shouldn't Kate Kelly say that she will appear at her Church court in Virginia along with media members and make it a big spectacle?

That's the best way to embarrass the Church and get the Church court called off, no?

Edit: I'm envisioning a podium and microphone set up outside the church building with questions from media before and after the court. That's what she could be going for -- I'm sure people would volunteer to pay for her airfare and definitely plenty of Utah media would travel to Virginia to cover it -- everybody except KSL and the DesNews.

So she shouldn't be complaining about the disciplinary hearing.

Are you autistic or something? Let it go already.

No. I am not autistic, although I do have a nephew with an autistic spectrum disorder as do many.

I was just just curious about the distinction between belief in human rights and belief in the savior. I sort of view those as the same thing, and that's why I think it's interesting that many people separate the two in their minds. Who is the "least of these" in our society and/or our church? I'd say that a variety of groups have been marginalized and are the "least of these," and so it's difficult for me to separate the idea of worshipping a savior from wanting true equality both inside and outside the church.

She said she is writing a brief and preparing a large number of documents but is unable to travel because of a sick family member. But I agree--I wish she would go to the disciplinary hearing.

That said, I don't think she is shrinking. She went to the New York Times. How is that shrinking from inquiry? She is standing up and defending her beliefs.

Sure, but there's a point where everybody knows exactly where you stand and so there is no point in restating/repeating the same thing over and over. And you should be nice/respectful to Mormons on a BYU board.
