I took Book of Mormon from one of DHO's kids.

He had some really outlandish ideas about mini-elephants and horses in South America that proved the veracity of the BOM.

He basically had an explanation for everything. He would spend entire lectures mapping out chiasmus for us.

I wonder how he handles facts. It doesn't sound like DHO innoculated his kids at all.

I had a summer roommate once that was dating DHO's daughter. She was definitely a "spirit of the law" kind of person back in college-years, although she never really deigned to notice me. She's probably different now.

The motherhood = priesthood line of reasoning should bother the hell out of the fathers out there as much or maybe more than the women.

No. I did not feel the spirit that day. But I am officially creeped out that you know details about specific basketball games that I played in almost about 20 years ago. Don't you think that's a little creepy? I don't know anything about you or your life, and I would never seek that sort of information.

But since you're stalking me, here is a better statistic of mine: 26 points in a single half including a 3 pointer at the buzzer of overtime when my team was down 2 (NOT church ball).

Cardiac was definitely better. I would beat him at one-on-one about 1/3rd of the time. I would beat him at HORSE more consistenty. My growth was stunted due to an autoimmune disease. Cardiac is much taller.

I had Dallin Oaks and don't recall any of that. In fact his class wasn't memorable at all. He seemed to be the exact opposite of his dad though in appearance. He was doughy, rosie-cheeked and always showed up to class with his shirt coming untucked and his hair a bit out of place.

I am in board with Motherhood=fatherhood. But I almost got the sense that this is the comparison elder oaks was making. If so, we may not be giving enough credit to those drawing the comparison. Being a mother in the church, after all, carries with it quite a bit more, including in particular the eternal nature of motherhood. So too is the role of a father in the church different, and certainly, fatherhood is the paramount responsibility of a priesthood holder. Every priesthood office and ordinance ultimately prepares the priesthood holder for the culminating ordinance making him a partner in an eternal marriage and a father of an eternal family. Maybe there is a sense in which priesthood IS fatherhood-- specifically, eternal fatherhood.

I don't really have time to flesh this idea out, so I understand if nobody finds it convincing. Feel free to summarily dismiss if so.

Long story. But I know a few guys you grew up with. I asked your brother (who I know off the board) if he knew them and he said they were closer to your age but knows them well. I went back to my friends and they told me that story. Also said thr first time they were ever offered drugs was in the 7th grade by the guy who was in Saturday's Warrior that you also know.
