    • We just got an email that our 5th Sunday lesson this week will be about safeguarding your home from the dangers of the internet. I can't wait! It's the first combined 5th Sunday lesson we've had in months -- since an equally riveting lesson on emergency preparedness -- so I may need to plan in case my nursery-age daughter isn't in a nursery mood this week.
I have nothing else to say at this time.

      • This is a great thread. 430 posts in the first week--almost all of which were on topic--AND Rosebud's inaugural CUF post? And no CUFfie? This thread is practically the "Citizen Kane" of CUF threads.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

I am hoping that is just your ward, and not an edict from the stake, or I may need to make plans as well. Actually, judging from the folks I know in your ward, it probably is just you guys.

Maybe you're having a kick-off meeting for WRAP week.

Turns out it was a guy from your ward (living with in-laws, going to law school, I think) and it was mainly focused on protecting the children. It never came up that half of us in attendance in that combined meeting were addicts wishing we were online right then and there. I stayed for most of the meeting because most of my hall buddies weren't in the hall anymore, playing Words with Friends.

                  • 1) Punograhpy is a 15-billion-year industry, which is larger than pro sports and movies combined.
How much of that money is made by large hotel chains (no, I won't mention a certain one) that distribute pornographic movies via pay-per-view?

                    2) In the last 12 months, punography revenues have dipped by 80% (12 billion dollars? Really?). Why? Because of the economy. Wrong--the economy has had nothing to do with it. It's because people are filming/photographing their own punography on their smart phones, and sending it via text message.
Say what? It may be that people have to rely on free sites rather than subscribe. So Obama has even damaged the porn industry with his failed economic policies.

                    3) The research and implementation of the technology for smart phones, high-definition televisions and programming, internet message boards, internet chat rooms, and web cams was all subsidized primarily by the punograhpy industry.
I would not doubt it. Any references for this though?

                    4) People aren't using facebook to reconnect with old friends. They are pretending to reconnect with old friends so they can seek out sexual partners.
Really? So the eight women who "poked" me last week were actually wanting something a bit more physical? Actually, I do believe what you are saying to a degree. I remember my first high school reunion and how a lot of the nerd kids had developed and were renting hotel rooms for encounters with the girls who were too popular for them back in high school. I think facebook can do the same thing in that people are in a virtual reunion all the time.

                    5) Marriage-age kids don't date anymore, because they are getting their sexual needs filled via punograhpy. Most RMs aren't getting married because they would rather watch pornography.
Nah, don't completely buy that. Not many people prefer to sit in front of a porn movie rather than find the real thing. Oh, here are some statistics on porn in the UK that are probably similar to the USA.

                    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...sted-ISPs.html

I will note that while the LDS Church makes it sound as if porn is a male thing, the fastest growing market segment of porn users are under-30 women. I believe the differences in use listed in the article above ignore age as the variable. Older women (over 55 or 60) rarely use porn but women under 30 access porn almost as much as guys, but usually spend less time viewing the porn than their male counterparts. Also, there may be a difference in what males and females prefer. From what I have read, women prefer to view porn that features either a man and woman or a woman and woman having a bit of romance before they get down to business.

                    • We spent Thursday and Friday at Snowbird. At the Cliff lodge they were holding a conference for National Guard members and their families. I asked what it was for and was told that it is for units who are getting ready to deploy or who have just returned, to help with the adjustment. One of the mini symposia was on "Pornography Addiction"

The National Guard obviously hasn't yet figured out that porn is not a problem.

Yeah, or maybe it will actually be about "Pornography Addiction" and not "Even Infrequent Pornography Use Is Evil and Will Destroy Your Family and Send You To Hell."

Sounds like you are advocating an application of the "moderation in all things" concept.

I think the definition of addiction might be this. If you were to have to go on a trip to a remote area of China for a month, what would you miss on your computer?

If Facebook comes to mind and you would be willing to do just about anything to get to it then maybe you are addicted. As for porn, I am sure there are some people who would walk several miles to the nearest Chinese town and risk trouble for accessing porn in a little internet cafe. That would be a sign of addiction. A person surfing some porn when they are bored or want some amusement is not addicted.

Lol. Well according to my seminary teachers and priesthood leaders, once you see the porno images they never leave your brain and you will never forget them. Thus, I think the spank bank is adequately full to survive a few weeks in china.

But who knows...maybe this explains the Americans who trespassed into Iran a year or two ago - they couldn't last much longer without their porn and were desperate for a computer. Pornography isn't just spiritually dangerous, but physically as well!
