Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I know it’s a joke but it’s a poorly executed joke. It would be better with Mike Lee or some other Redhatter. Mitt not only didn’t endorse Trump, he openly campaigned against him. Mitt also voted to impeach Trump.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View Post"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. Over the last several years, there are only a handful of GOP lawmakers whose integrity I admire. Among them are Mitt Romney, Jeff Flake and now Rust Bowers. Maybe there is something to this Mormon thing after allOriginally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostWe watched his entire testimony on YouTube tonight. Dang, I got a little choked up. What a champ.
. What is amazing to me is why it is so gut wrenching for members of the GOP to do something so simple as being honest. The above three should not be outliers. I don't get it.

In light of today's news that he'd vote for Trump all over again, I'm retracting the joke. Well, I guess it's still a joke.Originally posted by Moliere View Post

This is a terrible story of sexual abuse by a father.

My gosh, it's hard for me to believe that this has still happened in the last decade. I'm pretty sure one of you works with the firm that handles these issues for the church, so I have to believe that y'all have pulled your great legal minds out of your asses on this issue.
Bisbee is nowhere near where my dad's family is from in AZ, but there was a culture of sexual abuse and coverup in the church in that area in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, and it absolutely affected my family. Uncles (bishops and stake presidents) berated victims (which include my siblings and cousins), violated trust (disclosed to perps that they had been accused), etc.
The news media finally got the ball rolling in the right direction when a prominent member of the stake (he actually played the organ at my uncle's funeral the day after being questioned by police for sexual abuse and attempting suicide) went on the lam in Mexico before being arrested for sexual abuse of young men in his ward. IIRC, he was in Mexico for 3-4 years, but after 9/11, he got busted coming back in to the States.
I'm sure I'm more attuned to how to handle these issues, but I honestly can't fathom being a bishop and physician, becoming aware of sexual abuse, and being passive on this issue because some douchebag from Kirton McConkie is telling you to.

Everything about that story is terrible.
Is this really possible?
Who is right here, the church lawyers or the county attorney?Bishop Herrod, in his recorded interview, said church officials told him he had to keep what Adams told him confidential or he could be sued if he went to authorities.
But McIntyre, the Cochise County attorney, said that’s false, noting the Arizona reporting law says that anyone reporting a belief that child sex abuse occurred “is immune from any civil or criminal liability.”
Also, irrespective of whatever best practices might dictate, this just seems sketchy:
First, all records of calls to the help line are routinely destroyed. “Those notes are destroyed by the end of every day,” said Roger Van Komen, the church’s director of Family Services, in an affidavit included in the sealed records.

A more accurate title would be: This is a terrible story of the complicity of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the sexual abuse by a father. That story was hard to read. It revolves around the Church's Help Line, which bishops use to receive guidance on how to handle confessions of sexual abuse. Particularly bothersome to me was this excerpt:Originally posted by RC Vikings View Posthttps://www.yahoo.com/news/seven-yea...041844796.html

The Church considers sexual abuse allegations a matter of risk management? WTF?Mormon leaders established the help line in 1995 and it operated not within its Department of Family Services, but instead in its Office of Risk Management, whose role is to protect the church and members from injury and liability in an array of circumstances, including fires, explosions, hazardous chemical spills and severe weather. The department ultimately reports to the First Presidency, the three officials at the very top of the church hierarchy, according to records in the sealed documents.
