I wonder how much of that is because it is a good place to work and how much of it is employees not being willing to make negative comments about the church.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Second, that characterization of church employees is cartoonish and patronizing to the point of being offensive."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

I'll keep my view on the subject to myself, other than to say that it is not as cynical as that of MF, but it is more patronizing.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

I believe that church employees love their job. They have a higher purpose; they are working for an institution they believe in and love. That's a recipe for being a happy employee.Originally posted by Lost Student View Post

But there are multiple resources at your disposal where members of the Big 15 have made it clear that having a negative thought/opinion about the church is permissible, but stating that negative thought/opinion publicly is verboten.Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

I'm getting it from Dallin H. Oaks it is wrong to criticize church leaders, even if the criticism is true comment.
What Funk heard:Avoid backbiting, evil speaking, and fault-finding with respect to your bishops and RS presidents. (In contrast to "criticism" that the dictionary defines as “the act of passing judgment as to the merits of anything” that is inherent in the exercise of agency and freedom.)

What Funk heard:
https://www.fairlatterdaysaints.org/...ticism_is_trueI also said something else that has excited people: that it’s wrong to criticize leaders of the Church, even if the criticism is true
Also, as Green Monster said there is plenty of official statements from the church that its members shouldn't say anything bad about the church.

Funk, knock it off. If you can't recognize the difference between a BYU faculty member publicly criticizing the church and responding to an anonymous job satisfaction survey, you are being deliberately obtuse."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/...icism?lang=engI do not refer to the kind of criticism the dictionary defines as “the act of passing judgment as to the merits of anything.” (Random House Dictionary, unabridged ed., s.v. “criticism.”) That kind of criticism is inherent in the exercise of agency and freedom. In the political world, critical evaluation inevitably accompanies any knowledgeable exercise of the cherished freedoms of speech and of the press. In the private world, we have a right to expect critical evaluation of anything that is put into the marketplace or the public domain. Sports writers, reviewers of books and music, scholars, investment analysts, and those who test products and services must be free to exercise their critical faculties and to inform the public accordingly. This kind of criticism is usually directed toward issues, and it is usually constructive.
My cautions against criticism refer to another of its meanings, which the dictionary defines as “the act of passing severe judgment; censure; faultfinding.” (Ibid., s.v. “criticism.”) Faultfinding is “the act of pointing out faults, especially faults of a petty nature.” (Ibid., s.v. “faultfinding.”) It is related to “backbiting,” which means “to attack the character or reputation of [a person who is not present].” (Ibid., s.v. “backbite.”) This kind of criticism is generally directed toward persons, and it is generally destructive.
Faultfinding, evil speaking, and backbiting are obviously unchristian. The Bible commands us to avoid “evil speakings.” (See 1 Pet. 2:1.) It tells us to “Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you.” (Eph. 4:31.) Modern revelations direct us to avoid “backbiting,” “evil speaking,” and “find[ing] fault one with another.” (See D&C 20:53–54; D&C 42:27; D&C 88:124; and D&C 136:23.)"Seriously, is there a bigger high on the whole face of the earth than eating a salad?"--SeattleUte
