One of the videos kind of touches on this. The interviewer asks her about texts and seem to suggest that some of it was consensual. Texts from her saying "I love you" etc. Her response was that how could it be consensual when he is basically forcing her to say stuff like that just to keep him from blowing a gasket.

I didn't watch the video, but anyone in a position of authority should not be allowed to have a sexual relationship with a subordinate, whether it's an employee, student, or other. The power structure alone makes it impossible for the authority figure to know if it is a consensual relationship or if consent is a pretense based on intimidation. Nobody has sex with an employee, student, intern, etc. and without losing their job unless they are the POTUS.

LDS bishop arrested by Mapleton police on reports of sexually abusing two underage males

Officers with the Mapleton Police Department arrested a man Wednesday on reports of sexually abusing two underage boys.
Police reports state on April 20, a now 18-year-old man told police he was sexually abused by a man about three years ago.
The young man said Erik Hughes, 51, was at first very friendly and provided him with what the male thought was melatonin to help him sleep. But it made him disoriented and Hughes told him he must’ve given him the wrong pill.

Some good friends of mine is in that ward. They're completely blown away.

Former BYU student sentenced to months' jail time for sexually abusing young girls

A former Brigham Young University student has been sentenced to serve jail time after reportedly sexually assaulting several underage girls and attempting to meet with a 13-year-old girl online.


The defendant, Nicholas Lewis, 25, was sentenced Friday at Provo’s Fourth District Court by Judge Darold McDade to serve 300 days in the Utah County Jail.


Lewis will receive credit for the 198 days already served in jail.


Lewis has also been ordered by McDade to pay a fine of $1,122. This does not include restitution fines and fees.


Lewis was first arrested for his crimes in December 2016. Reports state an undercover officer posed as a 13-year-old online and Lewis engaged in sexual conversations with the officer. He was a BYU student at the time of his arrest.

4 felony convictions all involving sexual abuse of children. Admissions of sexually abusing girls as young as 5 or 6 years old. I'm sure the Dude will be here with accusations of outrage porn, but there is no justification for this sentence. The pedophile should have spent a minimum of 5 years in prison.

Hard to not think that being a Monson scholar, LDS, and having a father that taught at BYU didn't play a role in what was an absurdly light sentence.

The pedophile is already out of jail.

Technically, he had a sentence of at least 5 years, once you include the probation. But according to that article, he was convicted of two 1st degree felonies that carried a sentence of 3 years-life, one second degree felony (1-15 years), and one third degree (0-5 years). I'd expect a sentence of at least 3 years, like these other folks got:

After his arrest in December, Lewis told police that for 10 to 15 years he had "continually sexually abused and fantasized about sexually abusing young female girls," including family members, according to a probable cause statement.

In addition to seven felony charges filed in December — one second-degree felony and six third-degree felonies — in connection to the online chats, Lewis was charged in January with aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony carrying a potential prison sentence of 15 years to life.


In that case, Lewis was accused of sexually abusing a 6- or 7-year-old relative during a sleepover in December 2016.

Lewis was charged in a third case in April with aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony, and sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony. In that case, Lewis was accused of sexually abusing an 8-year-old girl sleeping over at his house between April and June 2008.

As for his light sentencing...

Lewis accepted a plea deal in May, admitting in the first case to enticing a minor over the internet, a second-degree felony, and dealing in materials harmful to a minor, a third-degree felony; admitting in the second case to attempted aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony; and admitting in the third case to attempted aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony, while the second-degree felony charge was dismissed.

In exchange for Lewis' plea, prosecutors agreed that sentences in the three cases would run concurrently.

So, yeah, he will serve a short sentence but be on probation for a while. Not to mention be a registered sex offender and felon for life. I don't think he will be back at BYU but maybe the U will take him.
