East Idaho is pretty far right but we do have a bit of sanity here, right now North Idaho has none. We got rid of the extreme right legislators from East Idaho last election, North Idaho and Canyon county put a few more in there. It's not Republican vs Democrat here, it's mainstream Republicans vs the far right Republicans where the fight is now.

Yeah I'm Idahoan myself. I can't stand politics in Idaho.

In reading the article it appears that they used passports to enter Canada. I don't think Idaho was anything other than a stop on the journey.

Ha, you're still in the crazy blast radius. Nice try.

When I was a teenager in Payson Mesa was kind of a mecca to us. We'd head down there for firesides and other activities. Back in the 80's there was a solid B-list of Mormon youth speakers. I remember Mesa was like 25% mormon back then; I wonder what it is now.

the one part of the story that doesn't make sense is that the husband of the daughter was there when they came to his house and the teenage boy was with them. yet of all his quotes in the story he never mentioned if it seemed like the kid was being taken against his will or if it seemed like he was going willingly, if he looked anxious, etc. i mean, he's not a small kid - plays football, etc. if he didn't want to go, especially with the BIL's help, you'd think he could have resisted. i imagine the mom had him convinced somehow. but it would have been interesting to get the brother in law's perspective on that particular episode.

The crazy that had always been present but largely ignorable in certain corners of just about every ward in the church was released like curses from Pandora's box with Covid and the 2020 election. I can't prove that Mormons lead the league in batshit apocalyptic schemes, but it sure feels that way.
The church may not make them crazy but it sure seems like it gives them plenty of fuel to run with it.
