Why not just “BYU Law School”?

BYU has had a policy for several years now to not name buildings after people. I would assume that would apply to cases like this as well. I think it is really smart. Nobody wants to waste energy dealing with the dumb woke mob.

As of when? When I left campus they had not so recently finished the JFSB and Hinckley buildings.

Sometime after that. Official names for the two latest buildings:

          Life Sciences Building
          Engineering Building

Curious to see what they name the newest building going up.

Looking at the websites, it appears it will be the "Music Building".

My daughter toured BYU last week and I asked her if she went to the syphilis building. She looked at me funny and then ignored me. I tried to explain it was the Smith Family Living Center but I guess it’s gone (which I think I knew at some point). Anyway, I guess we won’t get any more cool acronyms like SFLC

BYU flexing their creativity muscles, I see.

Not sure I care much if/when they rename the Marriott Center to "The Basketball Arena", but I'll be sad when Lavell Edwards Stadium become "The Football Stadium".

I don't think they plan to remove names from all the old buildings. Saint Lavell is probably safe.

You make a persuasive case, but unfortunately the existence of Mike Lee kind of ruins everything.

*edit- I'm a hack- looks like JL said the same thing. It's true, though.

We're talking about the name of the school, not the building.

                      • But yes, every leading law school I can think of is named after its university mother ship and not a person. Boalt Hall used to be the exception. Not any more.

I don't think this is necessarily a "woke" thing. It's a fair reevaluation as our large-scale values change.

Which is exactly why I made that distinction in the post you quoted.

I can confidently predict you won't see colleges or schools named after people in the future, either.

Haha. This is exactly the line people always give when defending woke culture. Go ahead and embrace it.

ASU is a leading law school? What is tosu? Nobody calls Penn Cary.
