  • So did this change come about because of a recent change in the Q of 12?

First, I think the history here is interesting. In a 2005 interview with Greg Prince, former General RS Presidency member Chieko Okazaki, who served from 1990-1997, said:

We asked one time if we could be on the building committee and the temple committee, because sometimes we think, “Why did they build it this way?”—because it doesn’t work very well for the women’s needs. And we wanted to be on the temple committee, because there are many things that affect women in the temple. But we were never allowed to be a part of those committees. I think we could help a great deal, but you have to have leaders in the Church who are willing to make that possible.
So it is interesting to see this change come about.

Of course not... It was part of the plan:

I love Sister Dew’s framing that this is not a mere administrative change but rather part of the Restoration.

At least Kate Kelly has finally learned some social grace and isn't taking all the credit like many assumed she would:

Those that say Kate Kelly doesn't do any good are wrong. I judge women on their sexual attractiveness, not their message, so I am not a big Kate Kelly fan. But you have to admit she's had some influence.

The church moves the right direction on social issues. Unfortunately, it moves very slowly and sometimes only when forced to legally or financially or when the negative ramifications of their backwards practices become so painful they're essentially forced. Unfortunately the church needs the Kate Kelly's and John Dehlin's of the world. With them, other good but chickenshit progressive leaders can step up and encourage change, and be considered moderate voices. Without the boogeymen like Kelly and Delhin, the good but chickenshit guys can't even open their mouth or they become the boogeymen.
This is an interesting theory, Jay. We need tone-deaf narcissists out there shaking things up so that the rest of us look normal by comparison. Uh... OK.

I am sure JD and KK are high-fiving and patting themselves on the back today. Most likely without ever considering or noting other voices and leaders in OW, many of which disagreed with KK on tactics. Or all of the various people posting on the bloggernacle on this topic for years, including Neylan McBaine (who wrote a book on the topic), Julie Smith, etc., many of which actually had real access to church leadership.

I know a lot of men that want to sit in on those councils. They just don't get chosen

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.
