I think there is progress being made here. She's sort of expanding on this idea of DHO from last conference that women really do in fact exercise priesthood authority/power even though they aren't given priesthood keys:



Yeah it's still not where the Church needs to be or eventually will be, but it's a nice idea and it's progress: women exercise priesthood power according to DHO.

Maybe I'm splitting hairs, but I dislike the fact she is basically saying that leading the Primary is a priesthood function. It's not, or at least wasn't originally. I guess all that changed in the 60s when the auxiliaries lost their autonomy and were formally placed under priesthood direction. It's like saying the women now exercise the priesthood because they are in the relief society, which is an auxiliary under the guidance of the male only priesthood.

I've harped on this before, but the priesthood has been too expanded IMO. When the stake is calling "setting up chairs" or "directing Stake Conf traffic" or "cleaning the chapel" a priesthood responsibility, I think things have gone too far.

Reminds me of something. I was talking to my brother last week and he said there is a couple in his neighborhood that everyone had been gently fellowshipping and trying to activate over the years. Just as they started attending church, one of the bishopric members came asked the husband's permission to extend a calling to the wife. He responded, "Why are you asking me? You should be asking her. She is an adult, she can make her own decisions." The call was then extended to the wife and she politely declined. Bishopric member returned to the husband and told him that as the head of his household, it was his duty to call his wife to repentance and convince her to accept the calling. He told the guy to bug off and they are no longer interested in church. Neighbors now want to strangle bishopric member.

That is pretty messed up. What is ironic about this is the handbook clearly states that the bishopric should ask the parents before they extend calls to their kids. It seems to me that never or rarely happens.

Seems OK to say to me that everything done in the church by women and men is done by Priesthood power/authority. Just semantics I guess but it seems like a step in the right direction to say that women exercise Priesthood power/authority in their callings.

Like I tried to say before, the whole article skirts around the elephant in the room. That last section is pretty much a deus ex machina in that if you are struggling just believe that the church is fine as is and don't question.

I doubt it. I happen to know this guy and it is par for the course. A few years ago he announced to his family that MOTAB is the only music what would be permitted in the home. One night he discovered that his wife had slipped out to the car and was listening to some music (non-MOTAB) on the radio. So he got his tools and took the radio out of car. Really swell guy.

Guys like this should not be in leadership positions. They should be in therapy.

The convenience of automobiles is available to everyone, but only men drive cars because the men control the proper keys.
In fact, men actually serve women through driving them everywhere. Driving a car is really an act of service.

There is a barrier at point of the mountain that keeps most, but admittedly not all, of the crazy out of SL County. The crazy swirls around northern Utah county and gets blown towards Alpine and Highland where it seeps into the soil and the water and causes the residents to do weird things like vote to keep all businesses closed on Sunday, or start/join an MLM. The barrier could be better but I'm just glad it works to some degree.
