Honestly, I just feel tired after today. I won't be at the conference center in April because I'll be in another state, but I support my sisters who are seeking ordination. I feel like the PR department is desperately trying to paint them as frothing nutjob apostates, when nearly all of the OW participants I've met are shockingly ordinary. They are moms, grandmas, wives, mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, and they are us."You know, I was looking at your shirt and your scarf and I was thinking that if you had leaned over, I could have seen everything." ~Trial Ad Judge

I'd like to issue a public challenge to everyone with relatives who are GAs. Call your relatives and encourage them to ordain women. I will do the same. That which may be asserted without evidence may be dismissed without evidence. -C. Hitchens

I skipped church to sleep in and have not read my BoM in months or been to the temple in years. I have the recommend to participate in family events. I'm not acquainted with any Mormon royalty. A year ago I decided I want to be active and believe.Originally posted by SoonerCoug View PostI'd like to issue a public challenge to everyone with relatives who are GAs. I have a really hard time worrying about spiritual stuff. What drives your interest?
I'm not being an ass by asking. I like to troll, but it bothers me that I don't care enough. I really would like to kindle an interest in spiritual matters. When I was in turmoil and on the fence it sapped my interest.
Do you still feel a connection to the church? I know your not a fan, but do you still believe in God, or is this more of a political type of interest?
If you don't feel like sharing, no worries. I am a nobody in the hierarchy without influence in my ward, let alone the church in general. My apathy and conflicting desire to become Peter Priesthood both get in the way of helping you out.Last edited by Vic Vega; 03-17-2014, 07:56 PM.

I don't really personally care one way or the other, though comments like, "If women receive the priesthood, men will be lazy because the women will do it all. That's why women don't have the priesthood. They don't need it," to be condescending and frustrating, as has been discussed numerous times here. And it cracks me up because if men think they could just sit back and be lazy, LOL. You think women would let men be lazy? We may need more talks on unrighteous dominion if women are ordained. :-)

The reason to tell them no is because there is limited seating and the meeting is for men. Giving tickets to women means there are less seats for the people the meeting is meant for. Seems pretty straight forward.Originally posted by byu71 View PostAgain I agree with you. If inactive (non TR holding) men can come, if non member men can come, then what is the big deal with women coming? There aren't going to be thousands of them and in the minds of many, even someone like me who says let them come, they will just look like petty trouble makers.
I can't come up with a good reason to tell them no unless it is just to show them who has the clout and I think that is a poor reason.

I had friends post pictures of scads of empty seats in the conference center and tabernacle during the priesthood session. Women weren't allowed to sit in empty seats. I am sure your friends have no agenda and are impartial observers.Originally posted by Mrs. Funk View PostI had friends post pictures of scads of empty seats in the conference center and tabernacle during the priesthood session. Women weren't allowed to sit in empty seats. Because they're women.
I have been to priesthood session many times and it is always full to the point of being standing room only.

I never claimed they were impartial observers, but there were empty seats specifically in the tabernacle where OW joined last October to ask for entry. It's been months, but I'll try to track down a photo.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostI am sure your friends have no agenda and are impartial observers.

There is a difference between asking for advance tickets that would normally be given to the people the meeting is meant for and filling an empty seat at the last minute. My understanding is that the letter was in response to a request for tickets. I have no opinion on whether women should attend the meeting or not, unless they are taking the place of intended audience members.Originally posted by Mrs. Funk View PostI had friends post pictures of scads of empty seats in the conference center and tabernacle during the priesthood session. I also don't have a problem with the Ordain Women organization. Its not something I care a whole lot about, but I'm not offended in the slightest by those who do. I am not aware of any doctrinal basis for not ordaining women and would not be surprised if it was just a relic of historical sexism. I also wouldn't be surprised if the opposite were true either.
I guess I just don't see the connection between the Ordain Women movement and attending priesthood meeting. Seems like there is a better way to get the message across than by taking tickets that would normally go to the intended audience of the meeting. Its not like there is anything said in the meeting that women can't hear. Now they can even hear it live.
