I need to start working on mine and see if anyone humors me. I think I will ask for green m&ms, crushed ice (not cubed), white couches and votive candles, and brown sugar cinnamon pop tarts.

As for the personal attack thing, that is just a suggestion. You and TB can feel free to ignore it. But when TB says:

I have a tough time taking him very seriously. He would be more effective if he attacked Rambam's data and arguments.

As for divulging information, I was referring to this comment:

TB is clearly connecting Rambam to a former poster on CG. Rambam has refused to confirm the connection and has expressed his desire to remain anonymous on this board. As a matter of privacy, I think we should respect that wish.

I also take issue with this statement:

Given the connection TB attempted to make, this statement could reasonably be viewed as a threat. Perhaps I completely misunderstood. If so, I welcome a clarification from TB.

      Carry on.
It was not a threat but the fact you might have seen it as such is demonstrable of the fact the double standard does indeed exist.

I apologize for calling him stupid and hope that I receive an apology for being called a liar and the insinuation that I am not sophisticated or smart enough to employ the tactics I did in calling out the blatant bigotry.

But it would equally sad if RamBam allowed himself chased away by something as elementary as being called 'stupid' or somebody referring to him as a "supposed politician". My third grade daughter is tougher than that and she's a drama queen for crying out loud.
I'll just leave that to Rambam's sensitivities--I'll respect his request. Since the personal info has nothing to do with the discussion, why bring it in?

Yeah, you're probably correct on the infractions. I was sticking up for my boy TB who was taking the time to respond to some of Rambam's volumunous output.

So I just wasted about 30 minutes of my life reading this thread. Every single post in this thread about how the church uses its money is pure speculation.

I know a couple in Payson that the church approached recently about buying some land they have near the "P" (for those of you that live down there). The church gave them a below market offer for the land. The couple said we will sell you this land on the condition that you use it for a temple. The church actually refused. The couple decided to sell it anyways.

I am guessing that plenty of scenarios like this occur, my father in law donated 100 acres of farm land to the church, that church uses for its welfare farms. When my father in law donated it he did not tell the church how to use the land. I understand the SLC renovation is going to cost 2 billion dollars or whatever it is, but how many billions in return will the church get from it? You have to spend money to make money. Whose to say that the Church doesn't make anonymous donations? The church donated 20,000 to the Hare Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork when that was being built. I am sure Rambam would rather have them donate 20,000 mosquito nets to kids in Africa. I say leave that stuff to American Idol and Angelina Jolie, fix the problems inside your own house before you try to fix others.

So far another 8 temples will be announced in the April 2009 general conference. Additionally, when President Monson announced a temple in "the greater Kansas City area," keep in mind that Independence, MO is only 10 miles from central Kansas City. But more interesting is its budget. The most recent "large size" temple (2002 Nauvoo) cost $38 million, but the budget for Kansas City is over $180 million.

Let it be know that my post was not speculation as it came directly from the Bishop Burton

Do you realize what that amount of money could do for Aids research in Africa? I guarantee that if the Cancer society ever received 180 million dollars they could cure cancer on the spot.

This isn't fair to Rambam. Of course there is going to be speculation about the hard numbers, because the church doesn't make those public. Why not? Perhaps to avoid this kind of criticism? But that doesn't stop REASONABLE people from using REASONABLE speculation to discuss MORAL/ETHICAL issues (which don't hinge on the hard numbers).

Rambam has some good ideas, worth consideration. His ideas deserve more than to be swept off the table because there was some speculation about numbers made necessary by the church's secrecy about its finances.

For that matter, why does the church hide its financials? I would think the world would stand to learn quite a bit from how the Lord's church handles money.

Actually, I think they need $185 million to do that. With $190 million they could also come up with an anti-cancer vaccine.
