I get to interact with Giff two or three times per year. He is a really nice guy who takes time to say hello to anyone who expresses interest. I do business with and work with members of his family and they're both well-rounded faithful people.

When my eldest was 9 months old, the Bednars told me she was an adorable baby. I have never been a huge fan of DAB, but my sole personal experience with him, he seemed like a genuine, nice dude.

That he is. We don't agree on many things, but he has always respected me, something local leaders can't seem to do on a regular basis.

My wife and I shared the elevator once with L. Tom. He is someone I look up to.

I met Elder Nelson at a Provo hotel last summer. He was leaving the pool, I was entering with my kids. We did not talk.

Yeah, I saw Eyring in the SLC airport once. It looked like he was there to welcome a missionary home. We made eye contact and he gave me an obvious "please leave me alone" look, and I obliged. It was the same look Steve Nash gave me years later when we ate lunch a few feet apart.

I am not Mormon aristocracy so my contributions are minimal.

I briefly saw Elder Komatsu and my MP get in a rather heated argument. I agreed with Elder Komatsu, so it increased my opinion of him.

When Elder Ballard came to our mission, and my best friend in the mission asked a question that was somewhat speculative in nature, Elder Ballard declined to answer the question, and did so in a most brusque manner. At the time I thought it was pretty funny.

When I was on my mission, President Hinckley and his wife had their 50th anniversary, so their kids suprised them with a trip to Hong Kong, which he had a history with and had always loved. Pres. Hinckley and his wife had a short meeting with us (which was pretty nice, considering they were on vacation). One of the Hinckley daughters had been in my ward when I was a kid (and one of the Hinckley granddaughters was very hot), so I mentioned it to him and we had a nice 30 second chat, during which I refrained from mentioning the hotness of his granddaughter. He seemed as nice in person as he seemed in all other places.

Stephen D. Nadauld was in the Area Presidency some of the time I was in Florida. Came before I got there though. Heard of missionary joking with him and Stephen expressed concern to the MP. This is an urban legend in our mission. Don't even know if it was him but some office Elder or someone else said when he came in you must be Nadauld disrespectful so he told that MP to send him home to make an example. If that is true I think that is harsh. Something I have hard time believing myself.

I'll add my GBH story - I think I've told this before, but I'll risk repeating my self

A little background - We were living in Germany in the Early '70s when the first Area Conference was held in England. The Church asked the service members living in Germany not to attend, so the local members could have more personal experince (or something - we were asked not to go). To make it up, several GAs, including Pres Tanner, GBH, and some Assts to the twelve ( this was before the first quorum of 70) came to the annual LDS serviceman's conference held at Berchtesgaden.

While we were there, my father decided we needed to hike up to Hitler's Eagles Nest, so we blew off the Saturday afternoon session and hiked up the mountain. While hiking up, one of my brothers and I got into a race and were way ahead of the rest of the family. Meanwhile all the GAs and their wives, the various German Mission Pres ect went up in a bus to see the Eagles Nest. By the time my brother and I arrived, the GAs were done with their tour and were about to go back down for dinner. Our mission pres saw my brother and I standing around and wouldn't leave us their so we went down the mountain with them, waving to our family as we passed.

When we got back down, the mission pres took us to dinner and Elder Hinkley, Sis Hinkley had gone to bed, sat at our table and we had quite a nice talk with him.

Also during that conference, either Elder Haight or Elder Ashton (I don't remember which) in a break out session with the youth told us war stories about WWII with no obvious gospel lessons

Also GBH came to Japan with the BYU football team in the winter of '77 and we got to meet and shake hands. I didn't have the courage to ask if he remembered the Servicemans Conference

Elder Kikuchi talked at a Sacrament mgt in my bldg a couple of times (one of the other wards bishop had been one of his missionaries) I spoke to him and said hello.
