Many years ago, Richard G. Scott sat next to me during an endowment session. He briefly spoke with SIRS and I in the celestial room afterward. He seemed thoughtful and happy to be there.

Was it distracting when, midway through your conversation, he physically turned and continued the conversation in a different direction?Originally posted by Sleeping in EQ View PostMany years ago, Richard G. There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

When my dad was Stake President in Saudi Arabia, the visiting general authority would stay in our house since hotel accommodations in our neck of the woods were nonexistent.

In early 2001, I interviewed for a faculty position at Ricks - slated to become BYU-I that fall - and interviewed with Bednar, who was President of the university at the time and not yet in the 12. I came away very impressed with him, and told my wife I wouldn't be surprised if he was a GA one day.
He apparently didn't think the same of me, as I didn't get the position...

Did you kids get the talking to before the GA arrived? I can only imagine what a nightmare it would be for a GA to stay overnight at Camp Harry Tic. I'm sure our family would have shown up in GC talks, and not in a good way.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostWhen my dad was Stake President in Saudi Arabia, the visiting general authority would stay in our house since hotel accommodations in our neck of the woods were nonexistent.Nothing lasts, but nothing is lost.

I'm pretty sure the million-dollar check is delivered similar to a Publisher's Clearing House check.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostHe probably had his million dollar check in his pocket and not a care in the world.

We lived in a country where capital punishment is handed out like parking tickets. We minded our p's and q's.Originally posted by Harry Tic View PostDid you kids get the talking to before the GA arrived? My uncle is an emeritus member of the 1st Q. He used to write most of TSM's talks (before TSM was prophet).
When my uncle's daughter got married, my mom, sister and I went to dinner after the sealing and before the reception at The Pearl in Bountiful - a GREAT place to see GA's BTW. While were there Elder Oaks and his wife were at the table next to us. We did nothing more than a little head nod acknowledging his existence. Then we went to the reception at the Joseph Smith Building (Hotel Utah). As we parked and got out of the car - Elder Oaks and his wife were getting out of their car too. He saw us and made a funny look of recognition. Then up at the reception, about 5 minutes after we got there, we were talking with my uncle and Elder & Sister Oaks walked in. He saw us again, and made the same funny look and then a relieved look and came over to us and said that even though we didn't fit the normal demographic for such things, he thought we were following/stalking them, and he was glad to see that we just had the same well-thought out plans as he and his wife (ie to eat at The Pearl before the wedding reception).
L Tom Perry stayed at my house when I was about ten or so. He had come in for our Stake Conference, and while the customary thing at the time would have been for him to stay with the Stake President, the SP's daughter had just gotten married and they had a house full of in-laws, so they stayed at our house - my mom was the SRSP. I asked Elder Perry if the "L" stood for "large" - he is a big dude...
As noted above - if you really want to see GA's go to The Pearl in Bountiful. I'm not sure why, but a whole lot of them seem to like it there. I've been there probably 10 times and about 6 or 7 of those times I've seen GAs that I've recognized (which means they were long-term 70s or Apostles).

GAs used to hang out at the Little America Hotel. They all love the burgandy beef, and D&C 89 be damned. We all trust our own unorthodoxies.
