Here I've thought all along that the biggest sin was murder but I guess it's now second place.

Sex is NOT recreation, folks. It's the most important thing in the world.
I would agree with him, in the context of an epidemic of sexual immorality, it is the most important thing for members to worry about. Not many members struggle with murdering others.

    • Guy giving that prayer is pissed they decided to sing that song five times slower than they should have.

It is not completely dissimilar to the gay marriage issue. In California, gays already have all of the rights incident to marriage except for the title of "marriage." They aren't fighting over being able to use that word, per se; they are fighting the distinction between homosexual and heterosexual couples, and the implicit message that the distinction conveys.
As long as you're putting marriage in scare quotes, please also include "outrage."

I think there are a lot of other things that are more important than sex and a whole lot of sins other than murder that I would put way ahead of fornication, certainly. I know Mormons have this obsession with sex though -- just didn't know it had risen to the level where chastity/virtue could be called the "most important" thing.

              It's not a scare quote.

It's hardly new. Ever read "most dear and precious above all things, which is chastity and virtue"?

I don't mean to be offensive, but I find your quibbling with what Elder Bednar said amusing.

That's even worse if he was quoting Moroni 9:9 because doesn't that refer to women losing what is "most dear and precious" by being raped? Ridiculous. Rape victims should be told that they haven't lost anything.

And by extension, rapists take nothing. No harm, no foul.

This is stupid. Rapist take plenty, but virtue isn't(shouldn't be) on the list.

A rape victim should be considered to have lost what is "most dear and precious above all things, which is chastity and virtue"?

Honestly I can't believe anybody would quote that verse in a talk given the context.

                          • In the physical sense, absolutely it is taken from them. Which is why it is such a huge event to overcome. The physical virtue is a symbol of what they hold precious and dear. Mormon did not mean that the rape victims were not virtuous.

Sounded like he said that chastity/virtue is the most dear and precious thing, not the most important thing. He did specifically mention that procreative powers are not just recreation.

So you're saying a married woman who has sex loses her chastity/virtue in a (physical) sense too? Interesting. Never thought of it that way.

So you and others just use chastity/virtue as a synonym for virginity? Mormons are weird.
