She posted this on Facebook today and was pretty excited about it. I thought some of you might find it interesting.

This is huge. Otherwise known as small changes that make a remarkable difference. Since 1981, the LDS Church has been using the same edi...

Thanks for linking. It is really cool that the church released a complete side-by-side list of the changes. If you are cynical, you will say that they were just beating others to the punch, as it was bound to happen soon anyway, but it is still cool.

I agree with the post that the intro to OD2 is very interesting. Especially the part that says
Early in its history, Church leaders stopped conferring the priesthood on black males of African descent. Church records offer no clear insights into the origins of this practice. Church leaders believed that a revelation from God was needed to alter this practice and prayerfully sought guidance.

I also believe that to be an interesting admission. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

I'm pretty excited about this and will probably devote half of my GD classtime on Sunday to this. I like Shaka's friend's take on this. Great link.

The blogger isn't my friend. She's simply the one who shared the article.

You and me both. Completely redoing my lesson. This is a good thing.

Helpful that my lesson is on the restoration of the priesthood.

I think they cleverly hedged that one by saying church records, and then probably self-define church records to mean something very narrow.

Which is not to say I disagree - it's not honest. But it's a step forward anyway.

So there's an Official Declaration or internal memo somewhere that the church has where they formally set forth the policy not to ordain blacks to the priesthood?

There is plenty of material in the historical record to see how it came to be.

Feb 5,1852 - Brigham Young announces policy of denying priesthood to all those black African ancestry, even "if there never was a prophet, or apostle of Jesus Christ spoke it before" because "negroes are the children of old Cain....any man having one drop of the seed of Cain in him cannot hold the priesthood."
