My sense is that if a longtime member in good standing suddenly starts wearing pantsuits, it might raise a few eyebrows. Marginally active or newer members just trying to find their way won't get a second look.

It should be fun to see how many women unwittingly get sucked into this fight because they coincidentally happened to be wearing pants this Sunday.

I assume you are talking to me? My answer would be, of course. One of the comments in the T&S thread said that those that made threats that were BYU students have been reported to the HC office:

not you specifically...just a general you. ( I'm glad they're being investigated, but the bad behavior wasn't isolated to byu students.) I'm just not ready to blow this off as standard internet behavior. it went beyond that, and among a group of professed Christians (just to add to the irony, Indy). there's a problem here.

I'm sure it will be addressed as promptly as the prop 8 homophobia.

And as quickly as the anti-prop 8 "Juden" backlash some members got after the election.

As I have seen none of the alleged comments on the FB site, I have nothing to specific say on that particular matter. Having received internet threats in the past, I know you take the overwhelming percentage of them with a grain of salt; but of course you never know which small percentage of them might actually be legitimate.

I don't disagree, and I'm not trying to write it off at all, though I do think the internet has made tough guys out of a lot of people. Certainly threats of violence and death threats go far beyond what is appropriate (to say the least). I'm more interested in holding people accountable rather than just writing it off as good ole fashioned church sexism...to me that is counter productive. If you explain them away, what have you gained?

So please don't misread what I'm saying. While I do believe that both sides shoulder some blame here, clearly, the over-the-top reactions and threats need to be addressed and dealt with (and I think calling the authorities on some of these folks was an appropriate response).

What else do you think can be done?
