And when your ward applies to use the picnic pavillion and the baseball field at the new chapel, you are turned down because you live out of the ward boundaries.

Wow, y'all actually have a baseball field at one of your buildings. It must be nice to at least look at.

My daughter is attending her last YW camp this week and our ward has 60 YW attending. That has to be one of the biggest YW groups in the church.
Growing up in the mid-70s, my teacher's quorum had over 40 active boy in it just before the ward was split. There was probably close to 200 total kids in YM/YW. (Sacrament meeting filled the chapel, overflow, and over half of a full-sized gym in our stake center.)

We have something like 30 active deacons in my ward. The teachers and priest quorums aren't as big. Our ward is probably about 1/5 retired people and most of the rest are families where the oldest children 12-14 years old or under. We still have something like 5-6 missionaries out. But it's an enormous ward. They split off a small part of it last year and put it another ward, but they've rapidly built in our ward boundaries this past year and it was already crowded after the split.

Our stake is huge and they're going to have to split the stake at around the same time they split our ward again. But they can't split the stake until they build another building -- which is actually happening close to our stake boundaries. The new building can't be conveniently reached by people within my current stake boundaries until they finish a road over a river and construction isn't starting until the fall.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

            • Our stake is at 15 units. In September we're having stake conference and there have been rumors it is going to split. I have this sinking feeling there will be some realignments and our new home will end up right back in our old ward and I'm kind of dreading that.

Apparently you didn't move far enough. Let me know when you are moving to Texas. I'll call the EQP for you to help move you in and get you a Texas flag to hang on your house.

                • I believe SIEQ once compared a ward split to a polygamist wife getting reassigned.

Our stake (which borders yours in some parts) has been rumored to be in year 3 of a 5 year plan after which it would be split...our area is growing like crazy, so it wouldn't surprise me to see a split happen sooner and another new building go up to be the new stake center. I also think when it happens that we'll poach a few wards from your stake to round it out.

                      • Fifteen years ago we were the odd men out in 3 ward splitting making a new 4th ward. On the first Sunday everyone showed up looking at each other suspiciously, and it stayed that way for a long time. It took about 5 years for the ward to find its cohesive balance.

                          That's a great line.

We have 3 YM and 1 YW. Really sad. The next few years will be helpful as we will get 2 YW and 2 YM turning twelve during that time.

                              • KL: This happened to our Ward actually. Our Ward was supposed to be assigned to the new building but at the last minute the other Ward in our city got moved into the new building. We got put back in the old Ward building (Built in the 1070's). I raised a eye brow when we found this out (Knowing the SP was a member of this Ward), but whatever..

I was OK with it, but what burned me up was when the 2 Stakes got involved and decided to move one of the other Wards into the new building that's not even in our Stake. They have 3 Wards in their old building and moved one of them into the new Building. I am not sure how this happened because it made total sense that the 2 Wards in our City be placed in that building.

As for the 3 Ward split to create a 4th Ward. It has been roughly 3 years and the Ward still is struggling to find our own identity. We've got a mixture of city's. Rich snob's area, middle class area and lower income area. What I find pretty blatant is the attempt to never involve the Columbus Proper area or hold activity's in that area. In fact, we have tried to break this by holding most of our EQ activities in this area to see a lot of uppity members never show up.. It is pretty sad.. In addition, the 2 Wards that used to be 1 single Ward for our city has dwindled badly. Both Wards numbers have dropped to Branch levels.. With people still moving out (I have thought long and hard about this myself) and no one moving in.. They really should just combine them back and cut their losses.. When your YM's group in one of the Ward's is a total of 1 to 3 boys. I think you need to re-evaluate the decision and realize the mistake..
