Sooner would be the right one to talk about this but there is a quack industry built up around telling people with persistent fatigue that they have Chronic Lyme Disease using tests that falsely diagnose it, then asking patients to pay for prolonged antibiotics.

She's the classic type of person that gets taken advantage of by these idiot health care "practitioners."

The day after we returned from a great trip in which we tried vainly to find ER Cougar, Mrs. PAC asked me to look at a bug bite she had picked up somewhere in the South of France (this was the first time she mentioned it). One could see the tiny bite mark, but far more concerning was the red circle, approx. an inch in diameter, that surrounded it. I've read enough about Lyme Disease that I immediately reproved her (lovingly and with love unfeigned) and told her to see a doc. Three hours later, she was in his office. He prescribed doxycycline (sp?) and ran some tests. Three days later, the antibodies test came back negative, but he's having her come back in three months to confirm. My sense is he's doing the right thing here and is just being careful. She can't be too sick, as she crushed me on a long climb Saturday during our first ride after a three-week layoff.

Yeah the doctor is doing things right I think. It makes sense to start doxycycline after a tick bite and rash while tests are coming back just in case to treat for ehrlichiosis and other similar diseases while you are waiting for the tests.

At least that's what I recall from when I was doing ER and urgent care stuff ten years ago.

When our son went out I thought it a little odd that there was no mechanism to notify parents of the missionaries' safe arrival. After 4-5 days of no contact, I could restrain my wife no more and she contacted the mission home to make sure her boy had arrived safely.

Years ago, obviously this wasn't as much of an option. But with current email, texting, etc., it doesn't seem like it would take much.

Now she gets a pretty big kick out of taking photos of any elders serving in our area and sending those photos on to their mother.

Hang in there, brother. It is excruciating, especially with that first one. But the pain will start to subside once the letters/e-mails start rolling in.

I hear ya. I wasn't prepared how hard it would be. I cried for several days with my daughter. I think I went into full on depression for a couple weeks with my son. Number three says she is putting papers in in a couple months. I think my wife is going to lock her in to stop it.

I broke a bone playing basketball on my mission. Got a cast and got transferred to a car area. There was no talk of banning basketball.

Back then, mission presidents were men, manly men.
