I still can't believe she was exed for this:

I'll admit to knowing little about the September Six (I've read the wiki page on it and some other ancilliary stuff) and I wasn't really old enough to have lived through it. But I'll say this is cool to see her return.

Sometimes I shake my head at things that happened back in the 70s, 80s, and even the 90s and I maintain that I belong to a different church than the one that SU left...at least in many ways.

I'll admit to knowing little about the September Six (I've read the wiki page on it and some other ancilliary stuff) and I wasn't really old enough to have lived through it. But I'll say this is cool to see her return.

Sometimes I shake my head at things that happened back in the 70s, 80s, and even the 90s and I maintain that I belong to a different church than the one that SU left...at least in many ways.

It's a lot because of the Internet. Nowadays she'd be a progressive Mormon. She's obvoiusly committed in her own way to Mormonism. She got excommunicated for editing a collection of feminst writings by Mormon women. Not exactly Tanneresque pulp. She wants to reform LDS culture like your basic progressive Mormons. I see on Amazon she even wrote a book for children about basic Mormon beliefs published in 2003 (like Mormonism for dummies).

You could say that progressive Mormons are a fairly new phenomenon largely born of the Internet. They used to be called "closet apostates". It's quite remarkable that nowadays people write what they write with no fear of excommunications.

For one thing, it would be impractical. It would be a reverse Waters of Sidon. Mass excomunications daily.

I wonder when the backlash occurs. There is bound to be one. Maybe the schism will follow. The LDS Church is no longer adolescent. It's nearing young adulthood.

I agree it's a simplification. But they really had no platform. On the Internet everyone has a platform. There are no barriers to entry. It's a nightmare for authoritarian institutions.

I have a good friend that spends all his vacation time helping to establish internet connectivity into 3rd world countries and schools. He does it to help tear down the walls of these institutions.
