  • Say a Prayer for my Ward

A big fire sprung up in the mountains bordering our area. Looking at it an hour ago was like looking into the gates of hell.

Our ward is directly downwind of the fire. I talked to my ward missionary companion and he said a couple of hours ago he left his home with a trailer full of his stuff and the flames were on the other side of the road as he drove away. He was pretty shook up.

The wind has calmed down a little, so that's good. But it's dark now and that's bad.

Personally, I'll be OK because we're surrounded by green fields. But depending upon the wind, a lot of our neighbors could be in trouble. I'll probably end up sleeping on my lawn tonight so it doesn't surprise us.

It's gonna be a bad fire year.

It rained over an inch here tonight and lightning struck nearby and took out our air conditioner. Fire is much much scarier than thunder and lightning, and I hope that the darkness brings no embers.

Update: So far the fire is veering away from populated areas, although I think it's possible some structures have burned. It's amazing how fast it can grow.

You hear the term "spread like wildfire" but don't really understand it until you see it in person.

These last few days have been nightmare conditions for fire fighters. Hot, dry, and windy.

I was amazed at the Dump Fire. Those embers get caught up in the wind and start a whole other section on fire in seconds. It's strange watching a hot spot appear as if someone waved a wand over it and commanded fire to come forth.

On the news this afternoon there were updated fireworks restrictions in many counties. Given the events of this past week, I can't say that I'm too disappointed. I've seen enough smoke in the sky for awhile.

Some hints of summer thunderstorms coming this way tomorrow. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

You wear too much makeup, Mr Maher. Also, you're not funny.

Best wishes. One of my college roommates lives in the Ranches and I have been praying for them. Their home backs right up to the hill. I'll wear you to the list.

The fire here in Saratoga and EM is done. It was crazy bad for a while and then, in about an hour (interestingly enough, my wife and I were in the temple for that hour) it was fully contained. Your prayers were heard. Well done thou good and faithful servant.

Wow, that's not cool. Especially coming from the same sensitive guy that wept when others commented on the equine features of one of our cherished celebrites.
