How do you feel about this LDS therapist's advice?

I've seen this principle floated before. The problem is, as soon as you start to make an argument that there is any correlation between anything "liberal" and IQ, you get shouted down by the dumbasses.

I really think it's troll bait and that's why nobody has responded. I agree with the sentiment, though.

I am not saying religion itself and IQ are correlated in a negative way. Okay sure, if you go to a nudist resort and test the average IQ of the members I am quite certain the IQ would be much higher than one would find at a Walmart shoppers convention but that has nothing to do with religion in my opinion.

The thing is, there is scientific research that has pinpointed genes that are associated with being both into novelty as well as for sexuality that pushes the limits of "normalcy." People with these genes also tend to be more intelligent. How religion COULD be a factor here is if a woman likes to dress in latex and smack her priesthood holder with a whip she might become less likely to want to connect to her religion if it tells her she is sinning. So there you have the alienation factor.

I once knew a beautiful LDS girl who admitted to me she wished she could go naked all the time if it were allowed and once asked me if I thought it was normal for a woman to like guys and girls. Of course I was in a more Peter Priesthood phase of my life and gave her the standard replies that would have made Elder Bednar proud: I thought the latter question was just out of
intellectual curiosity.

She was one of those super active young women but she did not date much; she admitted once that she had problems controlling her libido and was afraid of violating her covenants. Not sure if that was merely an excuse. Well, even though this gal was really into children and such I ran across her profile on facebook and found she was still single although she is now past the normal period of childbearing even if she married. I have generally believed that men who have a problem with their libido might become Catholic priests to repress the urges. Do you think we have a few LDS women who do likewise?

Now back to IQ and religion. I actually believe the LDS faith tends to facilitate a rise in overall IQ in its population. First, it takes people who are willing to buck society to join us and once a member a person has to have a certain degree of intellect to study and advance. And I believe that we and Orthodox Jews are the only religious groups in the US that its more educated classes tend to have the largest families -- thus increasing the number of people with higher IQ genes. The only danger is that people might feel alienated if they engage in sex that is considered atypical in their group or they may have to repress their desires and thus become unhappy. Any thoughts?

Especially when within the last 6 months I’ve known of two LDS adolescent boys referred to the addictions program offered by the church because they masturbate 1-3 times a week and three LDS adolescent clients tell me they believe their masturbatory behavior to be a sin next to murder!!! If this is what we are teaching our youth – then we are emotionally abusing them. And it needs to stop.

There is nothing wrong for a little or a lot of over-indulgence between adult partners, in fact it is healthy and to be recommended!
