  • Utah gay pride parade.

Erika Munson has never been to a pride parade.

But this weekend, she will be in one, along with at least 100 other active Mormons who — decked out in their Sunday best — will march at the head of the Utah Pride Parade to show support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

"There have been so many years of heartbreak and strife between the LDS and LGBT community," said Munson, organizer of the group Mormons Building Bridges. "We just want to send out a message of love to the LGBT community that God loves them because of who they are."

Munson is not gay, and she’s not someone who became involved because of a gay family member or friend. Rather, she started the group Mormons Building Bridges a few weeks ago to support LGBT Utahns, to show other Latter-day Saints that it’s all right to embrace the LGBT community and to reach out to LGBT teens in hopes of stemming suicide rates.

Which of the Utah people did you have in mind?

Is the cause gay pride, or some more specific political goal?

Erika's cause is pretty clearly stated in the article. Gay pride parades have multiple purposes which are probably as nearly varied as the people who participate.

Cause is probably a poor word choice. I'm just thinking of anyone who is sympathetic to and supportive of LGBTQ people.

That acronym grows by a letter per year, it seems. Just a couple years ago it was LGB, then they added the T, now the Q. I can't wait to see who's next!
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

What is the Q for? Is it Queer? If so why must there be Lesbian (queers with the potential for really hot and voluptuous secondary mammory glands) and Gay (queers with no potential for hot and voluptuous secondary mammory glands)?

If it is Q, let next year be the additional P for "pooftah" which was I think what the Limeys used in lieu of Lesbian, Gay and/or Queer Gay or Queer Lesbian.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

As in questioning whether or not you are attracted to men, women or both? I thought we all agreed we were born attracted to one or the other.

Questioning whether BYU will get into the B12.

Questioning whether or not getting a hose put on was the right move?

I won't be there, the parade is Sunday and I can't attend parades on a Sunday.

I am sympathetic to their cause, but I refuse to support a specific activity of any group of people that includes guys parading nude in public to promote their cause. I will continue to find other ways to show my support.

                              Yup

The Gay Pride Parade in SLC is part freak show. If they reigned that stuff in maybe they would get more support.
